M1 he Three Most Important Factors To School Reform

Teacher: Skills and Character- A teacher needs to be professional and set a good example for their students. They need to not fit in with the students but rather set themselves apart in their attire as well as behavior. This is so that the students know who is in charge and realize that there are boundaries. A quality teacher also needs to have the skill set to be able to teach a vast array of students at different levels of learning.
Student involvement: Students need to be concerned with their education and become involved in the learning process. They need to play an active role in the classroom and express their needs to their teacher without fear.
Differentiation: As stated above but mentioned again because of its importance, teachers need to be able to teach all students. They need to provide a place for as many students to be able to learn as possible. This includes but not limited to; quiet places, music, lots of light, no light, food or no food, comfy places to study or traditional desk and chair and group work or independent work. Teachers need to be able to differentiate and accommodate the various learning styles.

M2he Most Important Step in SIP

I think that the most important step in SIP is diagnosing. To me if a school is going to make a plan of improvement they have to know first; where they are, where they want to be, where they were (possibly a year ago), what works well, what they need to fix and what others involved think ( a second opinion, if you will). A problem cannot be cured if we do not know whats wrong.

There is a cohesiveness between professional development and instructional strategies utilized in student learning. We need to have more professional development that is relevant to our teaching in order to keep up with the fast pace of changing technology and the different students we will encounter in our classroom. We need to reach as many students as we can and that can only be accomplished through good professional development and strong instructional strategies.

In my opinion, data dealing with demographics would be important for a school improvement plan. In order to improve the atmosphere and quality of a school one has to know the type of people they are dealing with as well. In order for a school improvement plan to work everyone has to be on board. This includes parents. A school needs to know about a students home life and the values, to some extent, of their parents. If a school is working with the majority of parents who do not have an interest in their child's education and are only interested in a daycare while they work, then the school will not have much cooperation at home. These types of problems are important for school improvement planners to know about so they can be better prepared for the outcome.

I think I would like to use the carousel more than the dashboard. The carousel gets the teachers input and considers their thoughts and ideas. The teachers are the ones who bear the responsibility of improving the data so they need to have a say in the improvement plan.

I chose chapter 10 on attendance for my topic. Attendance is a huge problem at my school. I think the most important part of the chapter and ideas for improving attendance is to recognize why the student is chronically absent. Students have a host of reasons for their absenteeism and we must look at the INDIVIDUAL needs of our students in order to address and remedy the problem.

2. Constructing a school improvement plan requires a team effort in order to complete it effectively. In the discussion of the data, individuals can share multiple perspectives and insights in order to determine the root causes of issues. One person or source of data cannot determine the plan alone.

In my opinion a good plan is only as good as the team willing to implement the plan. A SIP is a large endeavor and can not be accomplished alone.

The most important factor that I learned about the school improvement plan process is attendance. At my school attendance is a huge problem. I have always been annoyed by the attendance record of our students and find it very frustrating that our admin accommodates this behavior by allowing them to make up their missed time during Saturday school. This does not make up for the missed time in our classroom and does not help their test scores. If we could utilize a school improvement plan at my school, attendance would be my top priority.
