I have young elementary students, and we look for ways to help them see that they don't have to wait to be an adult to make a difference. Running a local initiative based on their interests (a recycling day, a day to plant trees, or a day to clean up local conservation land) helps them know they can do something now. My second grade students learned about water as one of our most precious resources. They learned about water sources, how communities get water to their communities, and the different methods used to have clean water for drinking and eating. They had a goal to work with their families to reduce water waste, and it was great to hear their excitement and concern for this most important issue. We also studied how Play Pumps are used in some parts of the world to bring clean water to communities.

I plan to have my students work on language objectives through debates focused on topics as outlined in some of the lesson plans. I would educate my students on the importance of clean drinking water and how important it is for clean water to be accessible to the population. I would them implement a Do it Yourself "Water Filtration" system in the classroom. That way students can learn how to filtrate their own clean water. I would also combine that with teaching them how to grow their own fruits and vegetables to avoid malnourishment.

Since I have curriculum flexibility in my engineering course, it could be a place where I could incorporate learning with regard to SDG 15. Research and develop solution to real problems facing the planet.

One thing that I as an educator could do to connect the curriculum to the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development is to create a lesson that goes over the historic tradeoffs between development and environmental degradation, and then tie that into a lot of what we see today. The rise of industrialism has put a lot of pollutants into the air and the water, and although many Western countries have already put this infrastructure into place, many developing nations now have to grapple with the environmental cost of development. I find a lot of students are interested in climate change, and tying this lesson into the global economy might be valuable and help them understand how deeply our global connections run.

In my school we have a food pantry to serve students who have limited/no access to food. Unless students experience on their own, many do not realize that there are people who suffer hunger even in the community that they live in. It is not an issue that occurs only in places that are distant from where we live, like countries in Africa. I am going to show the video "World's Largest Lesson" to my students. I teach Grade 8 Science and my students do a PBL based on Heat energy and Heat transfer, their goal is to design a home that does not use fossil fuels and I have a bunch of new ideas I would like to incorporate from the three courses I have taken so far. This project involves working with, getting feedback from and present to the community (green designers, architects, builders and the towns sustainability organization). I feel refreshed and inspired by this section of the modules.

I would like to tie globalization into the career work I do with my students. One seminar I do has students take a career interest inventory and then do research on three careers that come up as matches for them. I would like to have students do research on how/if those careers are impacted by globalization and do research on what those jobs look like in other parts of the world.

I would like to teach my students about how access to education differs across the world, and also how access to special education differs. Students often take for granted or complain about having to go to school, but getting an education is a privilege that many do not have consistent access to. I think this would help my students think more globally and appreciate and take advantage of educational opportunities available to them.
