Spain is located in southern Europe, on the Iberian Peninsula. The country shares a border with Portugal to Oueste, and with France and Andorra to the north. Located south of the cold region of central Europe, and north of the scorching deserts of Africa, Spain has a unique and diverse climate. Giving a mild Mediterranean climate to the Mediterranean coast of the country and taking a cooler time to the rugged coastline towards the north of the country, the water masses that surround Spain contribute to its environmental diversity. The topographic variations between different parts of Spain also influence this (for example, there are similar conditions to New York in the cosmopolitan city of Madrid because even though the general climate in Spain is warmer than New York, Madrid is located on a large plateau).
