It would be valuable to hear from a keynote speaker whose work sits in the professional “third space” like many of the learning designers and other HE professionals who attend ASCILITE.

Richard McInnes is Manager, Educational Design at Adelaide University. He was recently recognised with a Leadership Excellence Award from the Association for Tertiary Education Management. He has published and presented on practice-based learning design and the role of educational design teams in supporting meaningful change in teaching and learning. He's published on whether higher education is educating for the status quo, and how institutions have potentially become compromised as agents of social change. His work refers to empathy as a key trait of human development and explores how practitioner values inform decision-making in learning and teaching practices, especially in constructive deviance (when staff contravene policy but add value to the institution).
