I am proud of this because this was the most in-depth personal expression piece that I have wrote in school before. At the time, I lost quite a bit of focus on my studies and that led to a not well-developed assignment that I later had to present. Specifically, I should have added more detailed answers, drawing out every possibility, and created a more visually appealing infographic. More merchandise should have been created, detailing the specifics of the program mentioned. Our country, for now and the near future, is subject to many discussions regarding politics and social issues. Learning to accurately debate and discuss an issue while forming an intelligent opinion is one of the most important things that factor into education and communication in general. One thing that I have seen when discussing with people, not just at Apalachee, is that most have no idea what a valid argument is, most will just say that something they disagree with is idiotic, without providing any contextual evidence to support it. Although during most discussions, mock or otherwise that I disagreed with Ms. Hasty, she still formed a very well-developed opinion that had some form of thought process behind it, contrary to what is usually seen from people. I hope that she continues to teach this skill in her future classes. When I arrived, I was very curious and trusting of people, willing to push for change regarding the well-being of the school, and I felt as though I was a young soul with bold and adventurous intent. Given my seemingly unlimited encounters with different kinds of people, both in and out of school, I have learned to become quite the opposite of who I was during Freshman year. My inexperienced persona of then allowed for people to use me for what they needed, and then leave. This has led to supposed friends and potential romances coming and going. Because of this, today, I am quiet, and I keep to myself. I am concerned with myself and my own well-being, and the well-being of my loved ones. I usually only speak to my family, or speak when I am spoken to. I try to not claim to be a person who has had a ‘difficult’ time, or try to be one of those grizzled, weary people who has ‘seen things’, everyone has problems. t goes without saying that there have been things witnessed, seen and heard at this school that make me question the future of our society. That having been said, it should be made clear that I am simply a young man moving onto adulthood, trying to advance past all of the immaturity and general unhealthy life choices that I have seen be displayed in this school. Besides all previously mentioned, I have learned a lot through the education that my elective classes have provided. Skills I never thought I had the will to do, I learned to do with ease.
