I feel like this style could be interesting to try out as it's made using collage. I think the colours could intrigue the kids and make them interested in the game.

The only problem would be the sizing of the items and also we don't have long for the project so time management would also come using this idea.

Developing an initial idea - recycling

Could be an educational game into ow to recycle but have the game be interactive so that the kids learn through physically putting the items in the correct place.

Similar games to research - Tummy Ache and operation

Having three bins - glass, plastic, paper

Then having drawings of recyclable items on cards and the kids have to place them into the correct bin.

Cards—We want to make the cards to put in the bins the same size as normal playing cards. Then, we want to make a print design using Lino so that all the cards match.

Designs on cards: We want to explore different artists' styles and use watercolour for the designs.

For the answers, we want to turn the designs into an educational poster that kids can look at after playing the game.

I think that these illustrations would work for our project. Not only is it a lovely style to draw in but also has been tried and tested with kids as these illustrations are used in children's books.

I think a children's game is also an important time to show these signs so that the kids understand where they will have to recycle in the real world.

Age range - 3+

Inclusivity - as there are pictures and words kids of most ages can play.

Length of game play / timings - the game is almost like flashcards so can only be played a few times that is why we have a poster with the game that can be put up after playing the game.

Materials and manufacture - card, paper and digital drawings on procreate.

Team roles and responsibilities - we are splitting the roles equally as we will both decide on a drawing style.

Methods of co-research, co-making, co-design -

We want to try and separate the work equally but doing half the drawings each which will attempt to do in teh same style. We have made a timetable which lists out what we will doing in the week.

I decided against the pull door concept as they could be fragile when young children are playing with them and the doors may not stay up on their own once the card had been cut

The measurements for the template were based around the size of the cards, I thought cutting the shape out from one piece of card would be sturdier than gluing several pieces of card together

We chose grey board over card board as it is good for model making. Strong but not too thick

Slits were cut in the top of the box for the cards to go through before the sides were sealed

This article states that the UK creates the second most plastic waste per capita after the US. This equals to 1.1kg per person per day.

This waste that we through away doesn't just get through away into teh obise. our waste then get shipped to lower-income countries to deal with.

This article reflects why our game is so important to children because it teaches them about the importance of safe recycling. Learning about our impact on the world from an early age sounds daunting, but because of our country and planet, it has become crucial;l for kids to be educated about it. change has to start somewhere.

I think that the simplicity of the game doesn't reflect the ideas which are spoken about in the article however our game is targeted at 2+ children who wouldn't be able to understand the ideas explored in this article.

Downcycling - (cascaded recycling or open-loop recycling) a term used to describe what happens to our 'recycled products'.

"downcycling occurs when a material is remade into an item of lower quality. These items typically can’t be recycled again, which cuts an item’s overall life cycle short." (Petsko, 2021)

To make money for the charity and to pay its workers 4Ocean collects the rubbish which they then turn into bracelets which they sell on their website. and with every bracelet sell, they pledge to take 1 pound of rubbish out of the ocean.

As of 25/11/2024 they have removed 40,174,624 since 2017.

Although are we want our project to focus on what to do to prevent this happened through recycling and proper waste disposal. I still think it's important for us to research things that happen when things do go wrong to maybe add to our project to make sure the kids know what is happening to the world.
