The term Irony is defined as the significance of one’s words that reflects in another situation later. The sources that uses this term are The One’s Who Walk from Omelas and Life Boat Ethics. These texts show irony because they state many things about helping the poor but nobody chooses to do so. I see it around me sometimes, it really isn’t that obvious to me. For example though when someone says they don’t like meat but will eat a pepperoni pizza later on because they are hungry.

In Omelas the author states that if they were to let the boy go and stop neglecting him that guilt would seep into there walls, but many of the citizens in Omelas feel guilty about neglecting the boy. In The Lottery it is ironic that Tessie waited to fight till the end, she only protesting the town’s actions when she was picked to be “sacrificed”. Authors use irony help the readers reflect on our reality. We see irony everyday Trump trying to ban Muslim immigrants, ironic because we are a country made from immigrants.
