I actually noticed this mistake after class. My slabs were quite thin and I did not like how flimsy they were. Here the image simply presents how wide the clay was. By comparing the clay with the side of my computer, it was obvious that my rolled out clay was not thick enough.

5) trail and run
Part 1 of the slabs:
After trial and error I was able to make my support slabs. The slabs are 10 inches in length and .5 in height. This angle shows a side profile of the slabs. I achieved these slabs by 1) rolling out the clay to .5 inches in height. I checked that the clay was .5 inches by cutting a small pieces from both the left and right side of the clay. 2) Once the desired thickness was achieved. I used my ruler to measure out 10 inches in length and marked it with a toothpick. Once the length was marked, I began to mark the width which was 2 inches. 3)Once all measurements were marked, I used my board to get straight lines. I placed my board on top of the clay slab and with my butter knife, started putting pressure on the top of the knife to cut straight through the clay. Once the slab has been cut, I put the "finished" slab on top of the other and outlined it. 4) I repeated the same steps of placing my board on top of the clay and using my butter knife to cut it. 5)Done, the slaps are finished

7) the slabs of clay:)
Part 3 of the slabs:
I have the shape down however I am still unsure how long I want my smaller parts to be. I kept them about 10 inches because I want to create this kind of splatter shape as my base and am still figuring out the dimensions of it. The support system will still be a rectangle because that would be best fit to support my structure.
STEPS:
Before I placed the slabs of clay on my board, I made sure to grab a trash bag to place on top of the board. This was to ensure that my clay pieces did not get stuck nor rip apart when I tried to pick them up.
1)I pinched the trash bag on one end and cut that side with a scissor.
2)Once I have a tube (hollow bag with both sides open) I looked for a crease and pulled on it to open up the trash bag.
3)Once opened i placed the bag on my board and picked my slabs carefully from my work station and carefully placed them on top of the trash bag, closing it to ensure that no air has gone through. (don't want to already have dried up pieces)

8)I had time to think/create the base (part 1 of the base)
Part 1:
Steps:
1) I grabbed the remaining left overs from the slab pieces of clay and did the method were you slab the pieces of clay on top of each other(to ensure that air bubbles don't form)
2) Once I formed a cohesive slab with no air bubble(checking by cutting a small piece to ensure that all layers were smoothed out-no air bubbles present)
3) After checking and ensuring no air bubbles, I had started to knead the clay (weld) into a ball the size of a grapefruit.
4) I began to use the palm of my palms to push down on the clay, and once I had it flattened out a bit, I began to use a rolling pin.
5) While rolling I failed to consider the thickness of the clay, focusing only on achieving 12' (1ft) in any direction. This was one of the many mistakes I failed to notice but I did learn that I do need more clay to have the desired width which for me is about .5 or near .75 inches because I want to make sure that its thick enough to hold the support but also strong enough to support the items I'll put on the base.
6) I still continued to roll it out until I reached 12'

14) whip cream (specially the cool whip one)
Using the dried piece of clay, as a class we all smashed it into tiny pieces, smaller than rocks. Once the desired consistency was achieved, I added the pieces into a container. In the container I added water, the amount of water depended on how thin or thick the slip would be. The image shows the consistency my slip was.
*note* I wont lie the consistently reminded me of the cool whip whip cream. I was shocked and I really love this part, being able to use dry pieces of clay to make this. it was talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely never been done before. just look at it wow

15) before part 1
These will simply showcase what I did before apply the slip and scoring it.
Steps:
1)Grabbing all my slab pieces(I had trim them because they went over the board) I arranged them onto the board. I did this to leave an impression on the board where I would be able to determine where I would slip and score it.
2)Once the impression was left/marked, I grabbed one of the longest pieces and grabbed the slip (whipped cream consistency clay) and slapped it on the side of the clay. Once the slip was one I scored it with the back of a fork. Once I scored it I added more slip to it, ensuring no air pockets.
3)Where the impression was left, I also slipped and scored the side. Repeating step 2, I simply did the same thing,I added slip on the impression, scored it with the back of my fork and added more slip on top of the scored impression.
4)Once both sides (board and slab) were slipped and scored, I gently placed the slab on top of the slab on the board.
5)Using a flat object(i used a ruler because it was the only thing I had) and used it to flatten and push down the slab.
6)Once the slip/clay oozed I made sure to smooth it out until it was seamless.
7)Once seamless I repeated the same steps of slipping and scoring with the other pieces of slab.
*Note* Very important to have a trash bag to prevent the board from sticking to the table.

1)image is a before picture (before the slip and score was done, this image was intended to leave an impression)

20) after part 3 (structural support done)
Using a card, I made sure sharpen the corners of the structure. Once I had sharped them, I made sure that the support was leveled and i did this by putting a ruler on top of the structure and laying it on top, making sure it was leveled. If it wasn't I simply used the shaver tool and carefully shaved of bits of it until it was leveled. Once leveled, I wet the tiny sponge and used it smoothen the base and support structure.

21) now this is the part where everything went downhill. I had an idea but then I forgot about the idea. No I wrote it down too but I just didn't like the approach and I know when you start something you should continue doing it but no I didn't so...i have my reasons though. I was getting a bad vibe from this and I had no direction I was completely lost.

well even if didn't use this i'm still going to go into about how i formed the hand.
steps:
1)I grabbed my clay (the one in the bag) and cut a rectangle shape (probably like 3-6 in tall) i grabbed more than I needed because I didn't think it would be enough.
2) I made sure to have the rectangle piece up the whole time. (standing) Once it was balanced, I made imprints on the clay where I would cut the pieces. I made to made 4 slits to from the five fingers.
3)Blocky at first, the fingers weren't shaped the way I wanted to nor did it resemble a hand. I clearly didn't give up at this moment but before I go into detail about giving up on the hand, I think it important to understand that giving up takes courage because you realize that its not it. so yeah i gave up on the hand but i still continued to do the project and finish even though i had doubt throughout the process. (ok that was a bit unnecessary but ohh well)
4) I smoothed the fingers with my own fingers (what?!). this took me a while because i had to look up the anatomy of fingers and the phalanges of it. it was interesting. I did however use hands in my final project but only the fingers.
