Reflection on site visit:
the first day when we reached RSC we mostly just split into sub-groups and focused on observing and understanding the building. the building being more than 125 years we had some rules to follow. At times it was difficult especially the main entrance and the dining area as it was always crowded and 11- 3 pm were their peak hours which made it challenging to measure the area. other than these issues it was an amazing experience to study the building, interview people and observe how the royal club functions.

During the first day of our site visit to RSC, it was disappointing due to improper organized schedule we have. We are not inform well for the preparation as well as we have been waiting for the whole morning. It also caused some inconveniences for us to carry out our measurement on our site. But I am glad that I have a great team to work on for that day to cooperate with each other well for all the interior measurement to be done possibly on that day. For the second & the following days, we were assigned greatly leads by Dr Suchi to individuals work such as interview with the person in charged and so on.

Royal club selangor is a historical building that appears to be define the constrast for both past & present. It is a place that broadcasting the different period of time back then and now to create a platform for different activities & events. The surroundings environment including long bars & dining area provide a space for people to sit down and enjoy the scenery towards clock tower. It is more than a peaceful and comfortable place to spend the day while when entering a long corridor leading to squash room, snooker, gym & hash bar that showing a constrast on a more compact circulation that allow the indoor sports to carried out. It is two different spatial experiences that makes me feel relax and yet energizing by the indoor spaces.

Nevertheless, it is another experiences for me to get to know true significant of teamwork during different occasion that might leads us to some problem that happened on site.

The most interesting part is the long bar it had a 120years old history tiles as it leaves a trail or british influences on malaysia architecture

My first thoughts about the building, ordinary and bland, changed completely when I understand deeper about it. The interior spaces exhibit British, Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures. Surrounded by classic and historical landmark or our country. The more I try to venture into the building, the more i know that it's not about the building itself. It is always about where it stands physically and historically. It is about the people that held hands and make this building, The Royal Club Selangor, an epitome of Malaysian Culture and history.

This is my first time working in such a big team in this course. During the first day, all the groups at Royal Selangor Club faced a lot of problems because of some miscommunication with the officer there. So basically the first day we waste quite a lot of time waiting there just to get the permission to enter. Although the first day Ms. Suchi is not with us, but with our group's amazing teamwork, we got to start our field work effectively. It is really a good experience because during the field work I realized there are really a lot of details that we normally wont notice and when I look closely at every corner, there are a lot of amazing ornaments and inspiring architectural details. Finally wan to thanks my team for giving so much contribution and teamwork.

Is really a pleasure to get this pleasure opportunity to conduct this activity in such a historical location. Things I found interesting is first, the context of the Royal Selangor Club. Royal Selangor Club strech along the vertical axis of the dataran merdeka, which separates the hustle highway and the dataran merdeka where people strolling around and taking photos, showing the two different lifestyle in a city. Besides, the old wing of Royal Selangor Club blends into the context which creates and seclusion effect that isolate the old wing and the public which conserve the privacy of the members within the club.

The site visit in the Royal Selangor Club was a great opportunity to build up my observational, interpretative and interpersonal skills.
When I visited the site, it allowed me to learn how to observe the building in other perspectives such as the user, spatial awareness context rather than the structure itself. Looking upon its functionality gave me an interpretative start to how society had affected the building itself. Besides this, it also allowed me to build up my interpersonal skills by working with others. Knowing our strengths and weakness, how we strategise to document our works. It was enjoyable to get to know each other and work together upon it.

In the contrary to these skills, it also enabled me to understand how we can prepare for a site visit in the future. When we do our site work, we can even prepare by looking for any convienent shops nearby like a printing shop for our site work.

When I went deeper, there were another level of spaces which look like a bunker to the members of Royal Selangor Club. It was quite interesting get a sight there. From the visit, I found that communication is very important in order to get accurate specification and also the allocation of works among the group members.

The Royal Selangor Club is in essence, a gentleman's club with two wings, the younger wing, 2 levels of grandiose proportions with a distinct British colonial style, and and older wing, a more reclusive retreat with the quintessential facilities built by men, for men. What was retrofitted after the fire destroyed most of the kampung style building could be said as an assimilation of Western culture into ours. Navigating the building with my group felt like digging through a treasure trove of history and heritage condensed into (idk how many square feet but ya) of land. In retrospect, I had great fun, learned a great deal on coordinating larger groups and I felt like Nathan Drake from the Uncharted franchise. A toast to many more adventures.

The building, having being built during the colonial adage allowed me to experience a blend of both the Kampung and British colonial style of architecture. Most importantly, it was rather an exciting experience to measure the old wing inside out with my group mates, exploring the interior spaces of the building and the structure of the building. I learnt a lot from the site visit, and Cheers to many more experiences!
