         <description><![CDATA[<p>Common Schools were started as a reform initiative. They were more geared toward assimilation than education. Students weren't organized by age or ability level and lessons focused more on moral lessons than pedagogy. </p>]]></description>

If their workers were educated there workplace crimes and strikes would be eradicated. Workers who were against the wealthy were immoral and common schools would ensure 'moral' workers for the future. </p>]]></description>

One such method of teaching was to capture students attention by starting with their interests and then connecting that interest to what you were trying to teach them.
