Imagism is a form of poetry that portrays meanings through concrete ideas without actually telling the reader what the meaning of it is. There are several strict rules that a poem has to follow for it to be considered imagism. First off, the poem must use direct treatment of the subject. This ties closely to the second rule which is, don’t use words that don’t contribute to the idea/meaning of the poem. The third and final rule is that the poem must be composed of rhythm of the musical phrase, not in the rhythm of the metronome. This Padlet is composed of several different examples of imagism. The first one is an original picture of a hockey stick that I took. The picture represents hard work, determination and persistence. The second example is another original picture of an old abandoned house that I took an vacation. The meaning of this picture is to portray a person with perseverance, dedication and a strong will. The third piece is a video of a burning paper. The video represents how hardship better prepares on for life and additional hardship. And finally, the fourth piece is an American Poem called In a Station of the Metro, by Ezra Pound. This piece shows the similarities between humans and the cycle of nature.

This is a piece of imagism representing hard work, determination and persistence. The largest and most noticeable choice I made was putting a black and white filter on the picture. This symbolize's a general struggle/hardship. The second noticeable choice I made was the wear and tear on the hockey stick tape, the shooting board and the dented/marked-up garage door. This gives the sense of hard work and repetition as it is obvious that both items get lots of use. The final choice I made was placing the puck on the blade of the stick. This represents persistence as the person is ready to continue taking more shots.

This piece of imagism represents a person with perseverance, dedication and a strong will. I took this picture of an abandoned house on a vacation from last summer. I chose to put a black filter on and a rain filter on to give a sense of struggle and hardship. Then I added smoke to the chimney to give the idea that the house was still functional and there was still someone there. The pile of firewood on the right side of the house helps support this idea. In the end this picture definitely expresses the traits of the person that it would take to live in this house.

This poem links a metropolitan scene of a crowd of people with the cycles of nature through an image of petals on a tree branch. It is saying that people and leaves are similar as they are constantly growing, changing, and dying. Pound increases this similarity by using the words "apparition" and "black bough" as apparition gives a ghostly, pale feeling and black bough gives this same sort of ghostly feeling.

This video was made to represent how those who grow up having everything supplied for them and not having to work for success aren’t as prepared for hardship as those who go have had to push through hardship and work for success. The “water” being poured on the paper is actually lighter fluid. When hardship comes through in the form of a match, the “water” that was supplied free of work is actually detrimental to the success of the paper. This symbolize's how those who have everything supplied for them are less prepared for hardship.
