1) the goal that aligns most with my cep project is Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all this aligns with my project becuase in the after school club we help provide them with learning opportunities that could be about new activities like certain sports or education.

3) “Education in the developing world” is an article that mainly highlights the topics of education in third world countries also including statistics about education globally. It connects to my cep and in goal becuase it has to do with quality education for students. In this article it mentions a concerning statistic “More people in the world today are educated than ever before. In 1820 only 12% of the people in the world could read and write. Today the share is reversed: only 17% of the world’s population remains illiterate.” this helps us understand how much we need to improve the 4th goal. Another part of this article states “In Uganda, removing direct costs through universal primary education increased enrollment by over 60 percent and significantly lowered cost-related dropouts.” This shows how much money can impact the amount of people that can get quality education. A question I have is how focused is the UN on the correlation between the cost of school and quality.

Global: “Education in the developing world” is an article that mainly highlights the topics of education in third world countries also including statistics about education globally.

National: In the article “Americas education system is a mess and it’s students paying the price “, David Steiner shows his opinion on the matter in two main ways. In one paragraph he states “Pre-K is a wild West, with the result that students enter kindergarten with large gaps in their readiness to learn.” This could lead some people to conclude how the r lack of readiness can be derived from the quality of learning they receive. Another example in the article is ““Math and reading scores for 13-year-olds have hit their lowest scores in decades.” When the recent NAEP long-term trend results for 13-year-olds were published, the reactions were predictable” this is just another example questioning the quality of education that students in the US receive. Since most of this article highlights the problems with the education system the question should be what we can do to improve it across the US and what we have already done to try and improve it.

Local: In the article “how Illinois is failing ur students” it talk about how to first Illinois was promised to be the best state to raise a family but now faced with statistical educational problems. This is shown when “We’ve arrived at this situation because our leaders have prioritized increasing budgets instead of students’ learning.” This shows how the education might not the top priority in some schools in Illinois. Another peice of evidence is “Three years later, less than 16% of the Chicago Public School’s 300,000 minority students can read at grade level” when it comes to this statistic it doesn’t seem to mention a ton of people in the statistic who just recently moved to America and don’t know English yet so what programs do we have for them that can help improve this stated statistic.

Global(2): “Improving access to quality public education in africa '' is an article that mainly highlights the topics of education in third world countries also including statistics about education globally. It connects to my cep and in goal because it has to do with quality education for students. In this article it highlights “Educated girls and women can better seek and negotiate life-saving health care for themselves and their children. Global studies have shown increased education—particularly for girls—leads to less infant deaths, less maternal mortality, and less infection from viruses” this shows us how beneficial the fourth goal can be to many around the world, another thing mentioned in the article . “Increased levels of education support communities’ resilience in the face of climate change and can help reduce communities’ carbon footprints by leading to smaller, more sustainable families.” This highlights how the fourth goal also helps with the planet we live in, not just the people. A question I have now is how much more can we help with education.

National(2): In the article “What Students Are Saying About How to Improve American Education” it talks about the various ways students suggest changing the American system when it comes to how education is in america. This is shown in the article when it states”One of the biggest flaws in the American education system is the amount of pressure that students have on them to do well in school, so they can get into a good college. Because students have this kind of pressure on them they purely focus on doing well rather than actually learning and taking something valuable away from what they are being taught. This shows how even the American system has its flaws when it comes to its quality education with the pressure leading to education net being educating to some. Another thing mentioned in this article is “At this point, it’s not even the grades I’m worried about. It feels like once we’ve graduated high school, we’ll be sent out into the world clueless and unprepared. I know many college students who have no idea what they’re doing, as though they left home to become an adult but don’t actually know how to be one.” When it comes to the goal it mainly focuses on education but what is the quality of it if it does not prepare you for the future like it's intended to. My question about this article is how students have been saying things like this for a while but not much has changed in the system when it comes to things like this.

Local(2): The article “Illinois has more teachers within greater diversity, but shortages remain” it mentions the amount of teachers are missing due to covid-19 and how this affects the quality education UN goal. In this article it states “The shortage of teachers in Illinois has slowed and even improved but gaps in critical areas, such as special education, remain and racial diversity among school leaders lags far behind that of the state’s pupils” when it comes to the fourth goal the education of all is included in that goal and with less teachers it makes it even harder to achieve this goal. Another thing mentioned in this article is “But newly trained candidates in special education and bilingual education lag behind demand and attrition is especially high among special education instructors. The number of paraprofessionals, key to helping classroom teachers provide individual attention, is declining.” This shows how important it is to have individual learning in teachers when it comes to the progress of the fourth UN goal. One question I have is what we will do if we aren't able to give quality education to a certain group of people and do we have a plan for that.
