The Emerald Man is an artifact in the form of a small stone figurine, carved out of a single green emerald crystal, believed to be the oldest known Mesoamerican emerald and the only known pre-Columbian carved emerald. This work of art symbolized the importance of hard work. (or men)

This artifact is believed to date back from about 500 B.C. to 250 A. D. When the Spanish Conquistadors landed in Peru and Mexico, in the 16th century, they found the natives of these lands in possession of large and beautiful emeralds, some of which were cut with great skill into strange and characteristic forms. "Five stones brought by Cortez to Europe were cut into the shapes of fantastic flowers, fishes and other natural objects. Thus, emerald carving seems to have been an ancient art prevalent in central and southern America since ancient times.”
    History Credits to http://www.internetstones.com/emerald-man-carving-ancient-indian-university-of-maine-olmec-mesoamerican.html

About 4,000 years ago, the Indians produced a few wonderful jade dragon carvings. Over time these dragon productions became highly stylized and were very popular as pendants. Most pieces only resemble dragons in a crude sense, but a few of the older dragon statues appear to be reproductions of a certain dinosaur. The jade dragon was shone and was important because it was the symbol of strength and sometimes courage.

Ancient India had a long-lived civilization and culture. It covered several countries including modern-day India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Indus Valley Civilization flourished from about 2600 BCE to 1900 BCE. It marked the beginning of the urban civilization on the subcontinent.Ancient India had a caste system, It has been referred to frequently in ancient Indian texts. The four classes were the Brahmins (priestly people), the Kshatriyas (also called Rajanyas, who were rulers, administrators and warriors), the Vaishyas (artisans, merchants, tradesmen and farmers), and Shudras (laboring classes). Ancient India is often called the Harappan Civilization because of one of the ancient cities that was called Harappa. Harappa was just one of 1,500 cities in the Indus River Valley. Another well-known city was called Mohenjo-Daro. The Indus Valley Civilization was an ancient civilization located in what is now known as Pakistan and northwest India today, on the fertile floodplain of the Indus River and its vicinity.
