"You don't necessarily have to be afraid of punishment after death; purgatory, hell, and heaven are all things that a lot of people can't accept, but still a religion, it doesn't matter which, keeps a person on the right path." (p.256) I chose this quote because it is mostly true. A lot of all of the most virtuous people in life were very religious (Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Malala Yousafzai, Mother Teresa, to name a few), and a lot of those who have committed evil acts were atheist (Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, and literally every communist ever). Even if there is no God, the morals and principals should still be taught.

"And the way Daddy has forgiven me makes me feel more than ever ashamed of myself, he is going to throw the letter into the fire and is so sweet to me now, just as if he had done something wrong." (p.227) This quote is important because it shows that Anne's parents really do care about her, even though she feels like they don't. It especially shows this because, Anne says that her father forgave her, and was still sweet to her, showing that even after she hurt his feelings, he still has the everlasting parental love.
