The character Santiago first begins the novel as a young Shepard who enjoys to travel and explore the world. Santiago has a close bond with each of his individual sheep. After Santiago becomes aware of his personal journey his character quickly leaves his comfort zone abandoning his sheep and leaving Spain. Santiago meets new charters who teach him the importance of the effect that the world has on its occupants. Santiago now becomes a man who is in touch with all elements and can interpret the language of the world. Santiago's character is now a more out going and optimistic person who is always looking for a deeper meaning.

I think that the character that impacted Santiago the most is the King of Salem. I think this, because he really pushed Santiago to push toward his dreams and to take more risks in life. He gave him the boost that he needed to achieve his dream. I also think that the alchemist influenced Santiago to listen to his heart and many others lessons he has learned. I also think that the crystal merchant's shop impacted Santiago, because it taught him patience and that dreams do not come so quickly.

From the beginning of the novel to end Santiago has changed by the journey he has went through. He met the gypsy and the old man. They provided him knowledge, especially the old man, about what he will need to know when he goes on his journey. He learns to look for omens in everything he does. Along with that when he worked in the merchant's store, met the englishman, Fatima and lastly the Alchemist. They all taught him valuable lessons that helped him in his journey. I would call Santiago a hero because he fought through the obstacles he faced and still continued his journey. He took all the advice given to him and reached the pyrimads of Egypt. Even after that he went back to spain to get his treasure.

Throughout the became more aware of the world saw more than traveling, and even thinks about settling down with Fatima. Santiago fits the hero archetype because he is the center of the journey and he has transform because of the journey.

Initially, Santiago was someone who kept to himself and pursued his passion of traveling in a low-scale manner. After meeting influential figures such as the Woman of Tarifa, King of Salem, Englishman, and the Alchemist, Santiago has significantly grown as a person. These people have proved to be a powerful influence in Santiago's life, pushing him to take more risks, believe in himself, and strive to achieve the most. After struggling on his journey towards the pyramids and overcoming multiple obstacles, Santiago not only gained more strength physically and mentally, but he managed to find a love which acted as motivation for him to fulfill his personal legend. I would classify Santiago as a hero because he overcame many obstacles and achieved his personal legend at the end.

Santiago starts with his dream of exploring. He gets help from father to start. meets people who help him stick to it. He keeps going. When he reaches the place he finds nothing. People tell him its in the church. He finds treasure back in the church where he basically started. He did not need to travel so much for the treasure but he learns things along the way. The treasure is more precious to him now because he worked so hard to get it.
I believe the characters Santiago met throughout his journey most deeply impacted his identity. The characters such as the woman from Tarifa and the king of Salem served as a catalyst for Santiago's journey. The woman from Tarifa also gave Santiago hope because someone else knew about the same treasure. The king of Salem inspired Santiago by making him invest a lot in the journey. He demanded 1/10 of Santiago's sheep which made Santiago heavily invested so he was more likely to do his best to find the treasure.

He has a greater understanding. In the beginning of the book, Santiago was specifically looking to understand other places, people, and cultures. Over the course of this journey that's what he accomplished. Dealing with failure, rejection, and setbacks, he came out truly understanding that personal legends, fates, and destiny exist to guide a person to a specific place. Though I heavily disagree with many of the themes, motifs, and ideologies of this text, this book has definitely created a protagonist worthy of being called a Hero.

Clearly the earth itself also played a big part in Santiago's pilgrimage, it come to life as his personal legend unravels. The old man also encourages him to continue, also giving him the two stones to help him make decisions along the way. Lastly the alchemist changes the whole novel, if Santiago had not met him i doubt he would have welcomed the idea of the treasure being right where he started, so quickly

I think other characters had the greatest affect on Santiago. Starting with Melchizedek and the merchant his journey was funded and he received nothing but positive influence. Later, meeting the Englishman and the alchemist, they led him on his journey through Egypt. Finally, meeting his true love Fatima, she pushed him to finish off his journey and find the treasure, and then they can be together.

Through out Santiago's journey many factors impacted him. I feel the people he meet and that guided him were had the biggest impact. They guided him and provided him with knowledge and life lessons that not only help him with his journey but things that he could take in his life. Along with that the treasure, Egyptian pyiamids and the personal legend also impacted Santiago's identity. They were the driving forces for bring this change in his life.

The deception and blessings along Santiago's journey helped shape his identity. When the boy stole Santiago's money, he learned not to trust everyone and be naive. He learned to be aware of his surroundings. When Santiago comes across the King multiple times, it reminds him to continue with his journey and to stay optimistic. The stories he learned along the way taught him many lessons too. For example the oil story. That taught Santiago to be mindful and observant of his surroundings but do not forget about your sheep. These are all qualities that have allowed Santiago to become more mature.

i believe the journey to the pyramids as a whole deeply impacted Santiago because it changed him and his values by the time he reached the pyramids. In the beginning, Santiago would've dropped everything to be with Fatima, however, the journey to fulfill his personal legend caused him to leave her and only return at a later time because he realized what was truly important in changing his life as a whole.
