Khalid is trying to connect with the listener, so he tries to make the lyrics emotional. The first two lines "yeah I'd rather be a lover than a fighter/ cause all my life I've been fighting," he's trying to explain how he's done living a negative life. He wants to love and actually prove how good of a person he can be. A few lines later, Khalid sings, "I never had someone to call my own/ I'm so used to sharing/ love only left me alone." In these lines, he is saying how he wants to love somebody, who loves him back. Khalid is tired of his feelings being played with. The lines that the song is based on, "I'm at one with the silence/ I found peace in your violence," shows that Khalid is used to being hurt. These lines are referring to him being hurt emotionally, not physically. He has been hurt so many times, that he has just become used to being hurt. He has never found his soul mate, so all the times he has been with somebody, it resulted in him being alone. He also says, "I'm used to sharing," which is a factual statement for him. He's lived his life loving the same girl as other guys. Khalid hasn't ever had his "own" girl. Midway through the song, Khalid sings, "I'm in need of a savior/ but I'm not asking for favors." This is referencing to his need for a supportive person in his life, but he's not going to go begging for them.
