Sunflowers and tomatoes are very much related to each other, as sunflowers can protect tomato plants as a companion plant. Both sunflowers and tomatoes use solar radiation and convert sunlight into energy (photosynthesis). Tomatoes need solar radiation to produce carbohydrates, essential for fruit development, while sunflowers convert sunlight into glucose and carbohydrates as well for the same purpose of plant development and growth.
