         <description><![CDATA[<p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 101 – Introduction To Linguistics</strong>	</p><p>This course introduces the field of linguistics. The topics covered here include the core branches of linguistics such as phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax dan semantics. This course will also explore language use and the application of linguistics knowledge.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 102 - Grammar In Use</strong></p><p>Students will be exposed to topics related to English grammar including basic concepts, theories, sentence structures, verb tenses, agreement and consistency, punctuation and mechanics, sentence variety and style, active and passive voice, clauses and phrases, advanced grammar structures, grammar (in context, usage in different genres) grammar and technology.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 103 - Critical Reading and Writing</strong></p><p>This course exposes students to techniques in critical reading, text analysis, academic writing, and persuasive writing. Students will develop skills to analyse, evaluate, and produce critical writing suitable for professional and academic contexts.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 104 - Multilingualism &amp; Intercultural Communication</strong></p><p>This course explores multilingualism and intercultural communication constructs and their effects on individual, language and society. Multilingualism in various settings such as workplace, digital and multimodality are prime focus. Next, intercultural communication is analysed through the lens of language, communication, power and conflict. The course provides a wide coverage of both constructs to equip learners with skills required communicate effectively in a multicultural and multilingual world.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 105 - English In History</strong></p><p>This course introduces historical events that led to the linguistic changes in standard and non-standard English, from 450 AD to present. These events are elaborated in six stages of English language development, i.e. Before English, Old English, Middle English, Early Modern English, Late Modern English, and Present Day English.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 106 – Language In Society</strong></p><p>This course is the study of the relationship between language and society, and between the uses of language and the social structures in which the users of the language live. In this course, among the topics that will be covered are social dialects; gender and age; language change, language and migration issues, attitudes to language, language choice in multilingual communities; language maintenance and shift; linguistic varieties and multilingual nations; language planning; and language and identity.&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 107 - Contemporary English Literature</strong></p><p>This literary course examines various texts, including fiction, poetry, and drama. Their linguistic, political, social, cultural, and historical contexts will be analysed collectively to assess how they impact writing of contemporary literature.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 108 – Verbal Rhetoric</strong></p><p>This course will expose students to the fundamentals of verbal rhetoric and the procedures for using it in writing and presentations in different contexts. Students will comment and give feedback on media materials and presentations based on word choice, structure, and effective speech delivery.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 201 – Translation and Interpretation</strong></p><p>This course introduces concepts and issues in translation/interpretation, leading to text analysis and techniques of translation/interpretating, and finally to practical sessions. Via practical sessions, students will be exposed to a range of translation/interpreting problems and methods available for resolving them.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 202 – Discourse Analysis</strong></p><p>This course introduces spoken and written discourse and illustrates the functions of language styles in social and ideological contexts. Through different genres, this course shows how discourse is structured and how it represents and produces social realities. Various linguistic structures are studied to achieve this aim and encourage a critical perspective to texts.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 203 - Research Methods in Language Studies</strong></p><p>This course equips students with foundational knowledge and practical skills for research in language studies. It covers key concepts, approaches, and ethical principles, enabling students to design and execute research addressing real-world issues. Students will critically analyse academic genres, frameworks, and language, fostering the ability to create rigorous research proposals.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 204 – Legal Discourse</strong></p><p>In this course, students will be introduced to topics such as an introduction to law and language, the linguistic features of legal language, language in legal contracts, pragmatics and interpretation in law, and linguistic creativity and terminological changes.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 205 - Psychology of Language</strong></p><p>This course introduces students to topics such as an introduction to the psychology of language, language acquisition theories, first language acquisition, bilingualism and second language acquisition, and cognitive processes in language processing.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 206 - Corporate Communication</strong></p><p>This course exposes students to concepts in corporate communication, including message writing, digital communication, cross-cultural communication, and corporate ethics. Students will develop professional communication skills and learn to tailor messages for diverse audiences in various organizational contexts.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 207 - Second Language Acquisition</strong></p><p>This course equips undergraduate students with key skills in Second Language Acquisition (SLA), including understanding SLA concepts, theories, and instructional approaches. It emphasizes effective lesson planning and data analysis, enabling students to illustrate SLA theories, develop structured lesson plans, and analyze language data. Taught in person with a project-based learning approach, the course focuses on practical application of concepts.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 301 - English for Digital Content Creation</strong></p><p>This course exposes students to various topics, including an introduction and foundation to digital writing, key skills for digital content writers, an overview of major digital media platforms and writing methods, writing for digital marketing, digital content for a global audience, and social responsibility and ethical considerations in digital content.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 302 – English for Contemporary Media</strong></p><p>This course introduces students to various aspects related to language and contemporary media, such as media discourse and analysis, media psychology, media in the global age, and journalism ethics. The course also provides students with opportunities to work in groups to produce digital public service advertisements (that are aligned to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals) and present the linguistic elements as well as significance of the advertisements produced.&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 303 - English for Human Resource</strong></p><p>This course explores cultural competence and ethics in the workplace and emphasizes employee orientation and induction in a human resources context. Students will examine linguistic aspects from the administrative perspective and improve related communication skills with the human resource domain process.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 304 - English for Tourism and Hospitality</strong></p><p>This course exposes students to various multimodal texts on tourism and hospitality, such as texts that are related to travel trends, inclusive communication, crisis communication, and ethical issues. It also provides students with opportunities to manage group projects related to the tourism and hospitality industry as well as propose innovative ideas for the industry's development.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 305 - Final Year Project (FYP)</strong></p><p>This course provides students with the opportunity to plan, implement, and evaluate a project focused on the needs of a target community by applying the principles of service-based learning (Service Learning Malaysia – SULAM). The course also encourages the development of soft skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking, digital and entrepreneurial skills, as well as personal skills.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>LEM 306 - Industrial Training</strong></p><p>This course gives students the opportunity to undergo industrial training in professional or semi-professional settings. Students draw relations between the theories they have learned in the classrooms to the values and practices of an organisation, gain work experience, communicate with professional workforce, and plan their future careers.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
