In the movie (along with the novel aswell) we are told that Charlie's middle school friend, Michael did not leave a suicide note when he took his life.
However, in the novel we've found out that at the Secret Santa party Charlie reads a poem to Patrick. There is speculation, that the poem Charlie reads, was written by Micheal. The poem is called 'To Santa Claus and Little Sisters'. The poem was written by a 15-year old boy probably around the end of the sixties, 2 years later he took his own life.

We follow a boy and his family.
In the first two sections, the boy is happy and close with his family. He writes a poem on 'yellow paper with green lines'. His mother hangs it on the fridge. His teacher gave him an A

In the next two sections the boy writes a poem about autumn. It's on white paper with blue lines. His teacher tells him to write more clearly. But gives him an A. His mother does not hang it on the fridge, since the door have just been painted. In this section, we're told that his father does not tuck him in bed anymore.

The next two sections, he writes another poem and his teacher becomes worried for him. Gives him an A anyways. His parents are not so close anymore either. His mother does not hang it on the fridge, since he never showed her. It's revealed his father dies in this sections as well.

In the last section, the boy writes another poem, on the back of a matchbox. the poem was called absolutely nothing, because that is what it was about. He gave himself an A, and a slash on each wrist. Hung it on the bathroom door, because he couldn't get to the kitchen in time.

This poem does challenge the 'Family issues' that are presented in the book and movie. We see how a loving family is split over the years, and how doing good in school might've torn on the boy.
