Growing up, I always found math to be very boring because it was often taught directly from a textbook, and focused on memorization. I also felt like teachers moved very quickly through concepts, and I was never able to grasp them before it was time to move onto the next topic. As a teacher, I want to make each lesson super fun and engaging, because I feel as though it will make students more encouraged to enjoy math! The more fun I am having with it, and can make it fun for the students, the more they will be encouraged to learn!

I chose this gif because it represents how I will teach math in hands-on, immersive ways. Instead of giving students a lot of worksheets and busy work, I want to give them problem-based lessons, open-middle problems, and other fun math activities. I've learned that this learning style can be more fun, challenging, authentic, and meaningful for students.

This gif represents me because as a teacher I always want to be there to celebrate my student's achievements. Especially when it comes to math, students can easily be frustrated if they are not getting the questions right. I want to do my best to uplift them, not tear them down.

I chose this gif because it represents how I see myself as a math teacher and learner: someone who is so excited! Though my undergraduate major/concentration is literature, I have always loved doing math in school. One of the reasons I enjoy this subject so much is that I look at math problems as puzzles waiting to be solved. As a result, I am excited at the prospect of being able to share my excitement with my future math students, who will hopefully learn to love math as much as I do. I think that the various strategies and problem-solving skills that we learned this semester will help me to get my students as excited to learn math as I am to teach it.

I chose this gif because as a teacher I want to learn from my students just as much as they learn from me. In math students approach problems differently and so i am excited to learn how they think and problem solve. I think learning from each other is like teamwork because both myself as a teacher am growing and the students are growing. Team work makes the dream work.

I chose this gif because I am excited to teach math to students. Often times in mathematics, you can see the "lightbulb" turn on for students when they finally understand a concept. I enjoy when students feel accomplished because a concept or skill finally clicks for them. Seeing students feel proud of themselves and relieved that their confusion is gone is one of the best feelings as an educator.
