Monarch Butterflies start out as an egg on milkweed leaves. They are super tiny, about the size of a period.

Larva

Transforming from egg to larva takes about one month. The larva eat so much and grow so fast that they shed their skin almost 5 times before transforming into a pupa.

Pupa

The larva turn into pupa, or the chrysalis. It takes about 7 - 10 days until the pupa turns into an adult butterfly.

Adult Butterfly

After the pupa is fully developed, the adult butterfly breaks out of it's shell and spreads it's wings.
