In this photograph (from google due to COVID family restrictions!) this demonstrates a very common greeting gesture in Latin households. Giving a kiss on the cheek upon entry is a common way of telling someone hello or goodbye. What makes this nonmaterial culture is that this is a gesture that is actually considered rude to not greet or say goodbye to someone without doing this and will often leave the room confused if not. This photo shows a giant pile of money underneath a college and plays on the fact that in order to get to college students must pay ridiculous amounts of money to get a good paying job. The photo demonstrates this further by showing the man having a bag of money he earned from his degree even though it cost him hundreds of bags for the degree itself. This however demonstrates perfectly how as a society we have accepted that the customary way to get education is by paying thousands of dollars for college. However, this photo demonstrates the concept of how the poor are at the disadvantage when it comes to higher education because many poor families cannot afford to send their children to college or nice schools. Many poor families live in communities that are not able to provide adequate tax money to public schools and as a result teachers, students, and parents have low expectations and students wont preform as well and therefore cant even apply for scholarships to help them afford college because form the start they were not given adequate education to even think about college. This photo is of me and my fiancés family who I have been very close with since we started dating at age 15. Since I do not speak to my immediate family they play the role of my family in my life by providing me dinner, shelter, new hobbies and activities, and care. This photo connects with the concept of primary groups because this is who I consider my family and the people I am the closest with and give me a sense of self. This photo is from my favorite TV show Euphoria, and is the character Cassie and she in this photo is coming to her prom looking as the show labels her "slutty". The reason this photo describes the concept of labeling so well is because she has accepted her deviant label of being a "slut" into her identify. Cassie feels boys will not like or go to the prom with her unless she continues to act and dress as a "slut" so she makes sure in every outfit she has she always is pushing up her breasts because she feels being a "slut" means more options. This photo shows the Placerville Hangman's Tree Ice Cream Shop with a black man hanging outside the shop and is marked as a historical location as well. This photo displays the concept well because showing a black man hanging outside an ice cream shop while it is also a historic location makes any black person feel instantly discriminated. Instead of leaving the shop name in honor of the historic spot, they took it a step further to show their prejudice against black's and make them feel inferior. They do this by physically having a black man dummy hanging outside their store and show that these where the type of people being hung. black people. Not only does the shop discriminate, the city of Placerville is actively showing their cities beliefs and prejudices as well by allowing a literal black man dummy to be hung outside a historic site. This makes any black person coming to Placerville feel like they are unwelcomed to the ENTIRE city of Placerville as well. This photo shows an all women motorcycle calendar with two women in bikini type wear that are clearly showing off their breasts and butt and their job is to model proactively. This photo connects with the concept to show that men who buy this calendar want to see women showing off their figure in minimal clothing and not men because you would never see a men motorcycle calendar in minimal clothing because it is considered a women's job to model this way. This entire calendar shows only women and the only options of calendars available to buy were only women because it is considered "standard" for women to model proactively and never in a million years would people think of modeling sexy to be applicable to men.
