An activity that I would do with children at Hanging Rock related to sounds and music, is creating a short song using natural materials. Children will work in groups to create their song and choose a creative name for it. Children can gather materials from nature such as small rocks or big, tree sticks and leaves, etc to create their song. Children then will present their songs to the whole class.

An activity for drama is to retell the story of how Hanging Rock formed. Hanging Rock previously was an active volcano, after many years the volcano evolved to become Hanging Rock. Children can make sounds and use their body movements to retell the story, children can work in groups to show their version of the story.

My personal experience and belief about music, movement, and drama, is that they allow people to express their feelings through music, movement, and drama and the way they react to it. The unit allowed me to develop more knowledge and experience on how music, movement and drama have a positive impact on people and the way it allows them to express themselves and be open about their feelings and the way they feel. I believe children, especially at a young age, do not have the ability to express themselves either through speech or writing, which they are the two modes of communication that adults mostly use. Instead, children have the opportunity to express themselves through music, movement, and drama when introduced to them at a young age. The story we tell through music, movement, and drama have more meaning about ourselves than we do in writing or talking (Harkin 2018). Further, the theory of hundred languages resonated with me, as it offers new points of view for seeing children in their brilliance and competence in constructing their understanding and developing meaningful skills through music, movement, and drama (Edwards et. al, 2012).

The three short teaching activities that I designed for children to do connects to my creative work and country visit, as it involves the natural resources of the place I visited and engage with the environment around them. The sound/music activity involves students in discovering the environment around them by looking for natural materials to use in order to create their own sounds for their songs. This allows them to participate in their learning as well as being creative and engage with the learning in a fun way. The dance/movement activity will engage the children to pay close attention to the environment surrounding them and copy the movement of specific objects within the place. This teaching activity will allow children to pay more attention to the details around them and see things from different perspectives to create new ideas and views. As the Hanging Rock was previously an active volcano, the drama activity involves children showing their story of how the Hanging Rock was formed by acting out the story while incorporating sound and movement to their story. Children will use their body parts to incorporate sounds into their stories.
