I study the ecophysiology of little auks (Alle alle), which are the most abundant seabirds of the Arctic, and acknowledged ecological indicators of changing marine ecosystems in this polar region. Via a long-term study of little auks breeding in East Greenland (Liverpool Land), in place since 2005, but also through specific experimental and modelling approaches, as well as through a panarctic network of collaborations.

The critical digital art institution

The Arctic is warming rapidly, which may change the balance of essential nutrients and harmful pollutants in its ecosystems. Yet how these substances move through food chains and potentially affect wildlife health remains poorly understood. This thesis examines the geopolitical securitization of Greenland’s critical mineral resources and evaluates whether the economic benefits of extraction outweigh the systemic environmental risks associated with the destabilization of the Greenland Ice Sheet and the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation. Fieldwork and systemic design for a circular economy production system on sled dog food in the Arctic

I aim to use participatory and systemic design research to support the local, circular production of sled-

dog food by Milak Production, a new company in Sisimiut, Greenland, which constitutes a situated case

of local industrial symbiosis in the context of Greenlandic traditional hunting and sled-dog culture.

Milak is run by

traditional Greenlandic sled dog owners and it seeks to create sustainable, highly nutritious dog food

using locally available raw fish and meat waste from hunted animals such as halibut, seals, and sheep.

Their goal is to offer a circular, low-impact alternative to imported dry food, which is now widely used by

Greenlandic dog owners.  Through fieldwork with stakeholders and dog owners, and by studying Milak’s production chain, I aim to

co-develop a strategy to enhance the company’s circular system. Additionally, I will co-create ideas for

communication touchpoints (packaging, supply chain map, etc) to show how this local dog-food solution

benefits sled dogs, the Greenlandic environment and culture.

My Thesis project is financed by the CLIMArcTIC project (https://climarctic.cnrs.fr/about/). Through the study of the philosophical and ethical concept of epistemic injustices, it aims to develop new ways of producing, co-producing, and disseminating climate knowledge in Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland).
Our approach focus on narratives of environmental change emerging from communities in Kalaallit Nunaat, as well as on their knowledge systems and values.
One of my key goal is to learn Kalaallisut as a way to better understand Inuit Knowledge, worldviews and values.

Carbon mobilisation along a terrestrial - aquatic continuum in western Greenland

My project focusses on quantifying soil organic carbon along an inland - coastal gradient, ultimately to understand its fate once mobilised and further understand carbon cycling in tundra catchments. GIANT - 2026 UAV radar testing and survey from Qaanaaq and Petermann Glacier

GIANT is about understanding the processes linking the ice sheet and ocean allowing improved models to better predict tipping points in the North Atlantic climate system. My specific part is measuring the thickness of Peterman Glacier and ice shelf using a new radar system mounted on a large UAV. We will also test if the UAV can photograph and count wildlife, especially marine mammals, in the areas where we work.

ILLU - Science and Art / ClimateNarratives / ARIA DronePort

ILLU Science & Art (pronounced Islu and meaning ‘house’ in Kalaallisut, Greenlandic) is an initiative to support science and art collaborations and activities in Avannaata Kommunia.

The core activity of ILLU Science & Art is an art and science residency programme, with two to three artists and scientists in residence. Each resident is expected to contribute to the local community of Ilulissat and facilitate one or more workshops in collaboration with ILLU. These workshops will be open to the public during or towards the end of each residency period.

ILLU is a result of the research project ClimateNarratives which a focus on bridging local and scientific knowledge of climate changes and their impacts in coastal communities.

Methane dynamics of proglacial lakes in Greenland

The lakes in the proglacial terrain of the Greenland is investigated for their methane dynamics. With the help of sediment coring, water sampling and gas collections the team aims to gain better understanding in proglacial development, methane production and glacial influences on downstream environments.

EnJustice: Transformative Environmental Justice

EnJustice aspires to bring the voices of excluded/marginalized communities (including Indigenous and grassroots local communities) in Greenland, Lithuania, and Sápmi into the Nordic-Baltic green transition strategy debate. It does so by pluralizing knowledge and justice-making processes related to environmental challenges, biodiversity, protection of life and land, and recognizing the value of the lived knowledge of those at the forefront of climate justice struggles.

Modelling Thule settlement dynamics in Greenland : : A spatial approach using satellite image remote sensing for archaeological site prospecting.

My research focuses on analyzing the dynamics of Thule settlements through the study of satellite images. I am interested in understanding whether satellite images could enable the detection of sites, taking into account travel constraints. I am also interested in the vulnerability of these settlements to climate change, particularly through the analysis of coastal erosion.

Tara Polaris

Tara Polaris is a 20-year research program consisting of successive transpolar drifts of Tara Polar Station, an international science vessel designed to be caught in the ice and drifts with it. The Tara Polaris consortium gathers 40 laboratories to build a long-term monitoring program of the evolution of the Central Arctic Ocean, that will allow to witness the regime change of the Arctic Ocean, from a constantly iced surface to a summer ice-free ocean, and its consequences in the upcoming decades.

GIANT - 2026 UAV radar testing and survey from Qaanaaq and Petermann Glacier

GIANT is about understanding the processes linking the ice sheet and ocean allowing improved models to better predict tipping points in the North Atlantic climate system. My specific part is measuring the thickness of Peterman Glacier and ice shelf using a new radar system mounted on a large UAV. We will also test if the UAV can photograph and count wildlife, especially marine mammals, in the areas where we work.

Exploring whether Learning to be Prepared to be Unprepared for the Uncertainties of Expedition Researh Through Simulated Ritual Discomfort can speed up expertise in Greenladic early career climate and biodiversity researchers

This research aims to investigate the decision-making processes of scientists and fieldworkers involved in primarily climate change and biodiversity expeditions and field studies. It focuses on how these groups navigate uncertainty through expert heuristics and specialised knowledge (Kahneman, 2021; Gigerenzer, 2019; Klein, 2005).

The major South Greenland airport moves from Narsarsuaq to Qaqortoq in April 2026. Which and how many researchers still have to come to Narsarsuaq to conduct field work? How can the shrinking settlement develop into a welcoming place for locals and researchers, maybe even attracting tourists with information and art work around the research happening there?
I feel personal ties to Narsarsuaq. I have worked in tourism in Narsarsuaq for 4 years and have paddled and hiked a lot in the area.

My anthropology research first focused on Inuit child rearing in the past, on social work and the resilience of children who are victims of maltreatment in their families today in Greenland, notably with an in-depth study of the Uummannaq Children's Home (PhD thesis).

Together with the leaders of this social institution, I co-founded the Uummannaq Polar Institute (UPI) in 2007 (we produced the film "Inuk").

Since 2014, I have expanded my research by working in transdisciplinarity with colleagues from my lab and partners in Greenland (Inuk Design, Inuk Media, UPI...) on adaptation to climate and social change in Uummannaq (ARTisticc, SeMPER and PREFER projects).

I was also co-coordinator of the InterArctic project, which, for the social sciences, consisted of experimenting with a knowledge co-production approach with students and their teachers from Nuuk GUX High School.

EU Energy Security and Structural Transformations in the European High North: Arctic Repercussions – The cases of Greenland and Sweden critical raw materials

The structural changes witnessed in the past decades have severely impacted the EU which consequently develops policies to fight the existential threat of climate change, accelerate energy transition and ensure energy security. However, such initiatives can be met with fierce opposition captured by the phrase ‘not in my backyard’ or ‘green colonialism’. This project
extends the existing normative literature to interrogate the political repercussions of structural transformations in the High North. While not ignoring the development of renewable energy, it mainly focuses on the EU critical raw materials strategy. The comparison of the case of Sweden (a member state) and Greenland (an oversea territory) sheds light on the political bargaining and legitimacy practices of actors. It intends to assess to the conditions under which the implementation of EU strategic energy policies is conducive to acceptance and the conditions under which it is associated with resistance and political shift.

RESPONSE: Co-production of knowledge and the building of local archaeological capacity in Greenland

RESPONSE focuses on rescuing archaeological sites in Southern Greenland threatened by climate change by surveying and excavating Norse and Thule Culture sites and studying their connection to modern Inuit farming and historical environmental and changes .
