It had been 16 years since Mitch had seen Morrie. Morrie was suffering from ALS and Mitch was having a hard time excepting it but Morrie was letting him know that it was okay to let go. I think that Mitch forgot about how much advice Morrie gave on life and it shows that Mitch missed it.
