Dominance and hierarchy is like USA and other Country's it is in social ranking like being the president. The male or female can be the leader of a group or pack, which is called being Alpha; with us the president would be the Alpha.

The way a species cans gain this type of behavior if there was a competition for recourses were they needed to show that they are the stronger one therefore should lead the pack and limit the amount of food and supplies each one of the members get. Each member are aware in which part they rank in and act like they should.

How is ranked determined

There are different ways that animals or people can move up in rank, it actually depends on the type of society the organism is in. In some cases it can depend on family like royalty and stuff like. An example of this is like say your the king and u have a son that son will be a prince and eventually become the king. The ranking can also be determined by age or fitness like the movie black panther they would fight to see whos stronger and to see who the next king will be.

what is Dominance?

Dominance is an animals way to show there the stronger one. A way you can test a mice's dominance is called a tube test this is were two mice enter each end of the tube and to get through one has to back out of the tube, The more Dominance the mice has will push force on to the mice and the other will retreat out of the tube. So now you know which mice has dominance. Another test is called a visible borrow system you put a group of mice with very little food recourses the one that begins to get fat is the one with dominance cause that mice had first access to the food.

My opinion on this type of behavior

I think this type of social Behavior is good cause it typically works out for the species and they usually find a great and strong leader that is smart. The animals that do have this type of behavior have a harder chance of dying cause there always in a pack. Sense there in a pack it is also easier to hunt for food. So i think this behavior is definitely acceptable.
