I had the best day in an elementary class. After the teacher did a lesson, I overheard the best spoken words. The lesson was about the life cycle of a butterfly. We explored each stage of the cycle: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and adult butterfly. Beautiful words were being spoken left and right! "Metamorphasis!" The teacher asked "What do caterpillars eat?" and the students responded with confidence, "LEAVES!" T: "But what do butterflies drink?" S: OH! OH! NECTAR! "Pair-share with your elbow partner, which stage would you want to be in in the metamorphic process?" The room bubbled in excitement in spoken words! Each student had great reasons to why which stage they would thrive in. S1: I would be in the chrysalis because I could nap all day and not have to go to school. S2: I would be the adult butterfly so I could fly! I wish I could fly in real life. I love hearing the interesting thoughts that kids share in class!

I had the best day at elementary school today! The kids were playing shop, and they used me in so many different ways! They wrote grocery lists and then I heard them using their voice to read me. They asked each other, "how much does the tomato cost" and "where did you find that" and found me on signs around the classroom.

Many of them used me in English, but I heard me in so many different languages! The teacher even explained that I can be really complicated by telling them that "produce" has two different meanings AND you can say it in different ways! I am so diverse.

The teacher acted very proud of the way that the students used me, and I felt very important and helpful for their learning. BEST DAY EVER.

Dear Diary,

We had the best day in an elementary class--we tumbled out of the mouths of 25 kindergarteners. Loud and soft, raspy and smooth. We created a real hubbub! The students were experimenting with glue, specifically trying to create a strong enough glue to stick five beans onto an index card. We flew out of the mouth of Elle, screaming, "Corn starch!!" And Morgan, "More water" "Please, not so much water" A meek voice asked, "Can I have a turn?" A strong voice stated, "You have two minutes left!"

We encountered smell along the way. We, as words, were used to solve a problem: "What is the white powder?" "Borax?" "Should we touch it?" "Can we smell it?" "You try!" "Me too!" "My mom uses corn starch to make chicken pot pie!" "My uncle makes crispy tofu with corn starch!"

We bubbled out of open mouths in spits of laughter! So much fun! What a day!

Love,

Spoken Words
xooxoxox

Dear Diary,

I had the best day in elementary class! Today, we made slime. Mine was green and it smelled like mint. But the teacher said I couldn't taste it. It might make my tummy hurt. My friend made pink slime that smelled like bubble gum. The teacher stopped her from taking a bite just in time. I wonder what would happen if I mixed the green slime with the pink slime...? Manny said he really liked my green slime, green is his favorite color. I think Manny is really nice.

Sincerely,
Jema

To my dismay, I stumbled into a room filled with my worst nightmare: the boisterous noises of lively and engaged children. The terribly interested teacher accepted ALL answers and praised students for their effort. DISGUSTING. UGHHH. WORST DAYYYY EVERRRR D:"
