Offline Moments by UoN HealthyU

In a world where we’re always online, offline moments help us be fully present with the people around us. These moments can make conversations more meaningful, reduce stress, and strengthen real-life connections.

For #UniMentalHealthDay 2026, we’re celebrating human connection beyond the screen. Share one offline moment that helped you feel calmer, happier, or more connected. It could be a conversation, attending an event, cooking with friends, or simply taking a break from your phone. All entries will go into a prize draw.

🎁 Prizes
	• 1 × £30 Love2Shop voucher
	• 2 × £10 Love2Shop vouchers + 2 positive student planners

HOW TO ENTER:
	1. Share your offline moment with a title (text, photo, or both).
	2. Email your name and padlet title to br-healthyu@nottingham.ac.uk by Friday 27 March.

I always spend an hour or so in my evenings, scrapbooking. I take pictures from the day, or little scraps (receipts, labels, napkins) and stick them onto a page in this big brown book. I add little quotes from the day, my favourite parts and little things to remember when I look back on it. It's my way of celebrating my time at university, and also driving myself to live life to the fullest!

There was always something interesting going on, keeping us off our phones and in the moment. My friends and I also managed to bond, sharing our commentary on the games and telling stories of some of our own sports too.

As long as you’re willing to be respectful and encouraging, I would encourage anyone to give it a try too!

As a Masters student, this time of the semester is rather stressful and filled with deadlines (sometimes multiple in the same week). Somewhere in the middle of a tightly scheduled day filled with studying, going to the gym, and doing chores, I find the time to crochet.

Sometimes it's just simple repetitive granny squares with patterns I know so well, I don't even have to count the stitches. Sometimes it's something I have never tried before and have been saving for later. Sometimes it's completely improvised! But it's always in a safe space with no background distractions- I get to be fully present in the moment and listen to the sounds of the environment around me.

It's nice to take a few moments away from thinking about your deadlines or how you're going to use your next "free time" to do something productive instead. Moving away from the fast-paced aspects of life can be equally as productive for your mind. It allows you to take a step back, relax, and come back with a new perspective on things!

(But don't procrastinate your deadlines till the night before, keeping yourself engaged with study materials keeps you familiar with the soft skills required for your degree!)

It’s nice to spend some time together without using phones and singing winner takes it all at the top of our voices. Nothing beats a cheeky maccies in a car park next to the lake

One of my favourite offline moments that helps me feel calmer is going to Wollaton Park. The park is very large, with plenty of open space to walk. You can easily spend half a day just exploring it, which I find really refreshing.

Being there helps me feel more connected to nature. In particular, seeing the deer always makes me feel happier. There is something peaceful about watching them. They move freely without any pressures or responsibilities. Sometimes I reflect on how simple their lives are, with no deadlines or expectations, and that perspective helps me slow down and feel more at ease.

I rode the bus with a hollow kind of certainty. The kind that sits quietly in your chest and whispers, “Today, there will be nothing.”

The hours stretched thin. The waiting felt heavier than usual, as if it knew my doubt. In my mind, I had already rehearsed the emptiness I would feel once I entered my room: the silent table and the polite acceptance of fate. But somewhere beyond my sight, something was moving. A door I didn’t knock on opened. A message I didn’t send arrived.

Food came; from here, from there ... like scattered pieces of a puzzle I never knew was being assembled. A text from a friend, A box at the gate, A neighbor’s unexpected knock. What I feared would be my first empty iftaar became a table overflowing.
