I looked upon the other two, who seemed thrilled to be a part of this mission. As I gaze at the countdown, the rocket begins to rumble, and mission control communicated.
T- 30 seconds.
They both seemed to be enjoying their time here, but I ensured myself to be safe. I've seen worse than this during my time in the Korean War.
T-10... 9...
My mind flashed back to the simulator that I barely escaped a year ago.
3...2...1.. Liftoff! We have a liftoff!
Everyone remained calm as we ascended to orbit.

In the corner of my eye, I saw the moon in vision. Mission control communicated about landing, but something seemed off.
As I looked down I felt horror strike me. The landing site we picked was filled with boulders! I decided to take control.

Mission control fell silent as I redirected the lander to a new location. I eyed the fuel, and noticed it was becoming extremely low. I held my breath as we made the descent.
I felt a small bump as we successfully landed in a manageable area.

"Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."
I heard many sighs of relief over the communicator.
"Roger...Tranquility, we copy you on the ground. You got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. We're breathing again. Thanks a lot."

I noticed my heart pounding from the successful landing. Buzz Aldrin seemed energetic, but I told him to wait while I set up the camera. I step down, and the dust feels as if I stepped on a pillow.
"That's one small step for a man, and one giant leap for mankind."
As I look up at the sky, I felt honored to look down upon the millions of people looking up at the moon, as this was the furthest we've ever been.
