While the first polygraph was being constructed, Larson was 21 years old and a medical student at Berkeley. From there he entered the field of forensic psychiatry. In 1921 Larson came in contact with the invention of the Polygraph (also known as a lie detector machine if you were wondering what a Polygraph is.) He fully developed its use in 1921 then applied it to his investigations in the Berkeley Police Department. The first case it was used on was a murder case. William Hightower was accused of murdering a priest in San Francisco, CA. The following morning, the murder was in the newspaper pronouncing Hightower guilty by impartial science.

What does a Polygraph Machine do?

What does it do? Imagine yourself as a little kid. Your parents ask you if you did something you were not supposed to. You then deny it. Yet they're still suspicious about it and want to know the truth. They then hook you up to this little machine and the machine reads off your pulse, blood pressure, perspiration, breathing, and body movements. All of this information added up will then tell you whether or not someone is lying. Research shows that Polygraph Machines have an 85-95% accuracy rate. Therefore, you should always tell the truth in case anyone has a polygraph machine in their back pocket.
