I view Grendel as a huge, hairy, muscular beast. He has claws strong enough to rip human limbs and teeth that can tear a human's skin off. I believe he's hairy because in the text it says, "My chest-hair matted with dribbled blood". Also, I believe his teeth are strong because of of the quote, "I eat and laugh until I can barely walk". I believe he is referring to eating the humans. Due to this, it makes me assume that Grendel is pretty strong and muscular. The quote, "bursting its hinges" helps support my belief.

2. Grendel- Music

The song I chose for Grendel's music is Breathe Me by Sia. In this song, Sia talks about being lonely and depressed. In the story of "Beowulf", the word "banished" appears in the text. That word automatically makes you think of loneliness. All Sia wants is a friend and someone to hold her when times get tough. Hearing this song makes me think of Grendel. In the story "Grendel" and "Beowulf", it gives hints that this huge, terrifying monster really just wants to be accepted by Hrothgar and his Thanes and to be happy. When he sees all of the people of Herot filled with peace and joy, Grendel becomes sick. "I shake with rage...Churns up my belly to nausea.. I cringe clawing my flesh".

I decided to steal the post Hasan Williams from your 4th period class. This student posted a link to GIF based off of the movie "Mama" and I can honestly say I agree with what they say. "Lurk inside the darkness", was something that the student mentioned in their padlet post. That quote fits this GIF perfectly because this monster is hidden in the darkness and is only revealed when out of the dark. This padlet post really does fit into the theme of darkness.

The story "Beowulf" was translated by J. R. R. (John Ronald Reuel) Tolkien in 1926. Even though Tolkien translated this story in 1926 the world didn't know about it until 40 years after his death by his son Christopher. In Tolkien's translation, we discovered that Beowulf is a story about a prince of the Geats, which is a tribe living in "Southern Sweden". Beowulf is brave and strong. He was also an orphan, alone, and had no wife. This story is a mix of pagan with Christian ideas, it also ignored in favor of archaeological and philological study. This noble prince got into three fights in this story. These three fights occurred during 500 A.D. The first one was with Grendel, Grendel's mother, and then a dragon. In all of these altercations Beowulf wins except for when he fights the dragon. It's clear to see that Beowulf was not a force to be reckoned with.
