HUMAN

• Human rights: McDonald's respects fundamental human rights and prohibits forced, indentured, or child labor. It has established standards and principles for responsible recruitment, especially to prevent the exploitation of migrant workers.

• Training and Development: Offering training and clear feedback helps employees improve their skills and performance, contributing to the overall efficiency of the organization. 

PHYSICAL
McDonald's will have a lot of physical reasons in the way that they run stores. Some of these reasons will be the location. The building that McDonald's is located in will count as one of the physical reasons. Furthermore, the machinery inside the store will also be a way would be a physical reason. Some examples of what the machinery would be include fryers, tills, and drinks machines. There are also costs that you will have to worry about, such as how much these physical products cost the business.

FINANCIAL 

• Franchise Model: The primary financial driver is its highly successful franchising model. McDonald's earns significant income from royalties and rent paid by franchisees for the use of the brand, operational systems, and property.

• Cash Flow & Profitability: McDonald's maintains strong cash flow through both company-owned restaurants and its franchised business model, ensuring funds for growth and operations. 

TIME

The training duration at McDonald's can vary based on the role and location. Generally, the entire recruitment process for Trainee Managers takes four to eight weeks, while for Crew Members, it can take up to two weeks. New hires typically undergo a 4-6 shift training program, with the minimum training time being around 3 days.

Delivery Frequency: Most restaurants receive deliveries 2–3 times per week, though high-volume locations may get them more often. 

• Calculate gross profit margin, net profit margin, current ratio, quick ratio, and debt-to-equity ratio.

• Comment on profitability, liquidity, and solvency.

2. Analyse Decision-Making Implications:

• Evaluate whether TechTrends Ltd can afford the new store investment.

• Consider short-term and long-term financial implications.

3. Stakeholder Perspectives:

• Explain how internal stakeholders (managers) and external stakeholders (investors, lenders) would use this information in decision-making.

4. Recommendation:

• Make a justified recommendation on whether the company should proceed with the expansion, including financial reasoning.

You need to work out at least 3 relevant financial ratios with an explanation.

Once complete you need to complete activity two on the exam paper completing a presentation looking at the finances and making a recommendation to an investor based on that

Remember to talk about both businesses throughout the work with the exception of the conclusion.

Work with your partner, but each focus on one option:
- Partner A: Option 1 – Refurbish the restaurant
- Partner B: Option 2 – Mobile restaurant

Individually, use only the case study to:
• Identify key financial figures (revenue, costs, profit, break-even point).
• List resources needed (staff, finance, time, equipment, location).
• Highlight risks and external factors (competition, economy, weather, demand).

Use decision-making tools such as SWOT or PESTLE to structure your notes.

Stage 2 – Compare and Decide

Come together as a pair and:
1. Share your findings.
2. Create a comparison table for both options.
3. Use financial data and qualitative reasoning to reach a joint recommendation:
   • Which option is better overall?
   • How well does it meet the business’s aims of profitability and quality service?

Focus on linking your reasoning to evidence from the case study — this is what examiners reward at higher bands.

Stage 3 – Prepare a Short Output

Choose one of the following:
• Option A: Create two concise PowerPoint slides summarising your decision:
   - Slide 1: Key comparison (financial and qualitative)
   - Slide 2: Final recommendation and justification
• Option B: Prepare a short 2–3 minute “consultant pitch” using your slides as prompts.

Your slides or script should:
• Use clear, professional business language.
• Include relevant financial and contextual evidence.
• Be well structured and persuasive (as if presenting to the clients).

You need to complete a PESTLE, SWOT and 5 Forces on the above as a group to show where the factors come from
