Once the baby is conceived and the sperm and egg come together, they start to split and develop into many different cells. The chart attached here provides an excellent representation of what occurs during critical periods of prenatal development. It's truly amazing how quickly the fetus develops and attains its vital organs and physical traits. Pregnancy typically lasts 40 weeks, although babies can be delivered prematurely.

There are several delivery methods for a baby to be born. The most common is vaginal delivery, some requiring the assistance of tools such as forceps or vacuum delivery. Some mothers may require a Cesarean section depending on special circumstances or complications with the delivery. As mentioned earlier, babies typically are born after 40 weeks of pregnancy, but this length can vary depending on each situation.

As this is a symbiotic process, it is important to consider the mother as well as the fetus.
