*can learn similar skills in a less structured way online or in person.  
*fees are fairly expensive (but probably worth it)
*lack of time to complete the course
*issues with location of school (UK) vs. my location (Canada):
1) different terminology for materials
2) different access to project materials 
3) distance and time differences when communicating
4) limited participation in course events and exhibitions
5) limited access to UK cultural resources (museums, etc.)
6) volatile currencies may affect future fees

In some cases the cost and pre-reqs for courses are either too high or unattainable. But MOOCs are an awesome way to get around that!

It sure looks like there are a lot of great options for courses from credible institutions. I'm not sure that I fully understand the distinction between closed and open learning environments. It looks like there is a lot of grey area on this topic. I think it would be fun to take "big question" topics in an open environment. Maybe topics like Civility, Climate and Environment, History and Culture for international countries. 
I think that online education will be very appealing to a variety of learners. 
I wonder how MOOC learners will share their training on their resumes & interviews.

Technology is a bit of a barrier for me. Even doing these pad-let exercises I find hard. Every time I try to do something like paste a pic something happens and it deletes it! If this was a typical kind of course i might really think twice about doing it. Also , I am in no way technology literate- anything that goes wrong with my computer I am at a loss. Many online courses are very expensive ( from hundreds to thousands of dollars). Therefore, I will use free online courses to learn as well as learn how to navigate different types of online learning platforms that are used by various institutions. Once I believe that I effectively handled these courses, I will attempt a paid online course. Offering a free course is one way to achieve this but one cannot discount a quality internet connection and a minimum of technological tools that allows for high speed downloading, streaming audio and video, and high density graphics that are often part of an online course. The huge disadvantage of online courses, remains "the accessibility". Some people do not have easy access to a computer with an internet connection. Without access, learning online is difficult.

Apart from the problem of internet access and availability of availability of the technological devices like the computers, tablets, smart phones etc, one fundamental problem that exist especially in less developed  countries is that of regular power supply. This can be so discouraging and highly limiting effective online learning

I looked into a class a couple of years back, and it required specific computer software that I did not have, and it was only available for purchase. My intent from the course was for faculty development, and I did not find it worth the cost of the software. I decided to take a different class that had less access restrictions. I would have like to have taken that class.
I look at classes like purchasing any product; a higher price does not necessarily mean higher quality. 
I feel that students new to computing tend to have a more challenging time. Learning to use the device, and learning content is a lot at once. There are a few MOOCs but most of the courses are "ordinary" distance/on line courses. There is no technological obstacle.
