| Can you find any definitions of the topic(s)?
Public relations is the practice of deliberately managing the release and spread of information
between an individual or an organization (such as a business, government agency, or a nonprofit
organization) and the public.
Journalism is the production and distribution of reports on current or past events.

| Can you find any specific examples?
The facts say the number of journalists has fallen by nearly 25 percent since 2000, and it continues
to drop. In contrast, professional PR jobs have skyrocketed by more than 60 percent over the same
time period – and this number is expected to rise over the next five-plus years.

| What are the important theories? What do the experts say?
Extensive research examining the input of public relations practitioners into the news has found that
the products of their work—such as media releases or media conferences—are crucial in facilitating
the news cycle (Sherwood, et al. 2019).

| What are peoples’ general beliefs, opinions, views, etc?
Journalism tends to be the more popular choice when it comes to picking a career, which means
there is an overabundance of people wanting to work in the sector. This creates more supply than
demand and keeps salaries down, comparatively. Not great if you have a family and dependents.
Public relations has a more commercial focus. This is an advantage that will provide more
transferable skills when you move up the career ladder.

| What are the main discussions and debates about this topic(s)?
Which one is the better career between Public Relations and Journalism.

| Is any key research summarised?
The relationship between journalism and public relations is more complex because of the
development of internet. Most journalists respect what public relations professionals do, and vice
versa, while their tools evolve and overlap around popular message arenas.

| Are there any connected ideas or problems?
In business’s perspective, journalism could be viewed as a necessary expense (a cost to the
business), while PR is viewed more as an investment.

| What synonyms/near synonyms did you find for the key topic(s)?
PR.MEDIA.
