Also, there is a moment in the text where the narrator even tries to kiss Holly. Furthermore, he comes to be very upset upon reading about how Holly is going to marry Rusty.

In the book, having a main person as a gay character spreads this awareness and it doesn't come across this way in the movie.

The narrator does have some homosexual traits, such as not loving Holly sexually. The narrator is like Holly's gay best friend and is there for her at every bad point. He is there when she sees Doc and he is there when she finds out Fred dies. The book is very pro gay and has a variety of people from the LGBTQ. Mag is transgender, Joe Bell is gay, Holly is suspected to be bisexual, the narrator is suspected to be gay, and Jose is suspected to be pansexual. The narrator was not upset that Holly was going to marry Rusty, I think he was just worried about her like a friend would be. While in the movie the narrator is concerned about Holly marrying Rusty and then does not want her to marry Jose.

In Breakfast at Tiffany's, sexual identity is such an important topic and the fact that the film took away totally changes the story and integrity of the book. I do think that the narrator is homosexual even though it is never explicitly said. The novel is meant to portray LGBTQ identities and when in the movie there is a romantic tension between Holly and the narrator it totally changes the point of the book and in a way disrespects Truman Capotes vision for the book.

I think this shows that Madame Spanella has more of an acceptance of men and what they do with their time than what women do with theirs.

I think that she accepts Smith because of the double standard, that wouldn't allow a woman to be as open with her sexuality as a man could. There is not much that is different about them, which says a lot about the way Spanella thinks about gender roles. It shows that in this time period, gender roles were a big part of people's judgement and development. I don't think the film did as good of a job as the book at addressing gender roles, and did not capture the original message of Capote with a major lack of references toward sexuality and identity.
