Most of the sharing of research is done through video tutorials or lectures given either for free or in classes for people to learn.

One major hot topic within game design currently is AI. Not the use of it in general but how it is used within the games. Some company's use AI to test their games for bugs and problems so they can troubleshoot them rather than getting actual play testers to come in and give human feedback. AI within the games is also a bit controversial, some people like that there is AI, and it makes the game feel more immersive but sometimes the AI is just off and would feel better with just a normal pre-written NPC dialogue section. It's up to the developers and game companies to decide on these things but the players themselves are typically very outspoken about how they feel on these subjects.

I love Computer Science, and specifically game design because of the freedom and fun that I can have while making money. Developing games can be very fun and rewarding to see people enjoy the work I put into something I'm passionate about. It's also a great wakeup call if I make something bad or disappointing that the feedback I get is constructive and helps me to improve with later creations.

There are quite a few professional organizations within game design that are basically household names at this point. Companies like EA, Epic Games, 2K, Nintendo, and companies like these have become household names due to the large IP's they fund and release practically yearly.

Careers

Careers within game design can be varied even though it seems like a niche job pool. You can choose to do different kinds of games, like mobile, console, or PC games. You can work for different companies and do different types of jobs like programming, design, animation, etc. Or you can run your own company and have other people work along with you to do everything. I am personally going to do a sub-discipline in game design where I run my own e-sports organization and have coaches work along with me to teach kids teamwork and life skills through video games.
