Why do We Cook Food ?

1 (a). Some food can be eaten raw, such as fruit and vegetable. However, most food should be cooked before it can be eaten. Use the following photos and answer to the following questions:

‘ I SEE’ : Describe the differences that you can observe in terms of its appearance, colour and texture
‘I THINK’ : (i)What are the possible reasons that cause chicken to change its appearance, colour and texture? (ii) What are benefits when food is cooked
‘ I WONDER’ : What happens when you could use different methods of cooking in preparing the chicken?

1)I see: the cooked chicken looks brown in colour and more crispy than the uncooked chicken which is white and oily.The cooked chicken is garnished with lemon and vegetables

2)I think: the cooked chicken changed colour due to the seasoning and due to more heat

3)I wonder: if the cooked chicken taste better than the uncooked chicken

I see the cooked chicken is of a different colour and is more appealing with the garnished around to decorate it.

I think heat changed its appearance and texture

I think germs will die due to the high temperature during cooking

I wonder if the colour and texture will change if you deep fry, steam or roast the chicken

1a)I SEE that the chicken looks more appetising ,the colour is brown and the texture looks rough and crispy.

I THINK that the chicken changed colour and appearance and texture due to the heat when it was cooked.

I WONDER what would happen to the chicken when it is steamed or grilled.
