Flavivirus is the family that the yellow fever virus comes from. The flavivirus can produce diseases such as Dengue Fever, Japanese Encephalitis, and West Nile viruses. However, the yellow fever virus causes only Yellow Fever, previously known as Yellow Jack. It is considered an acute systemic illness that results in a hemorrhagic fever due to the fact that the symptoms consist of bleeding and fevers.

Mild yellow fever symptoms include fevers, headaches, chills, back pain, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. However, severe yellow fever causes liver damage which produces jaundice (yellowing of the skin), abdominal pain, and bleeding in the mouth, eyes, and digestive tract.
