I knew this from the, " my eyes, his own glittering with delight." People's eyes don't usually sparkle unless there was light but they didn't say it was from the light and was with delight instead.

This was effective because it shows how his emotions can be read, for example like the joy, pride, or "delight" that was shown in the sentence. 
The author could have used it to make it to make it more interesting in that moment and it would show the perspective feeling he was showing in a way.

It was effective because you can imagine how they were moving like without seeing it.

She was in the sidelines, jealous of the other girls because of Maxon and trying to hang out with her friend, plus the other girls.  I connect this somewhat because when I was younger at school, they had a party for the students and there were some parents that would come to help though. In the party I was on the sidelines like America, jealous of the other kids mostly but for a different reason, candy.
