Hello everyone, I'm your teacher for this course and here I'm going to tell you something about me. I was born in Richmond, in the suburbs of London and I lived in the UK until I was 23, when I came to Italy. At 16 I chose Maths, Physics and Chemistry, so for the next two years those were the subjects I studied at school. I loved the Chemistry experiments we did, and all the pretty coloured crystals we made. So I decided to go on to study Chemistry at university. However, after a year and a half, I realised that Chemistry wasn't for me - I actually found it rather boring, especially the organic chemistry courses. So I changed to Philosophy: the best decision I ever made! My job is teaching English and I enjoy it a lot. Outside work, I love gardening - here is a photo of my garden. I also do a lot of yoga, but just for the positions, not for meditation. Please write something about yourself here on this page - tell us a little about your studies, your life and what you like doing in your free time.
Thanks!

Hi, Filippo here.
I was born in Belluno 23 years ago and lived thereabout until before university.
I always found upsetting that school years have not even close the same name across countries so I will just use the italian name.
At 14-ish as "scuole superiori" I attended a Tecnical Institute even though I also liked the Scientific School but I like to think that I wasn't super into studying that hard. In particular I studied Computer Science, at first. After a year I got mad at how little the professors were actually teaching us and that just an internet access and the resources available were already better for learning computer stuff. So I jumped to electronics for the subsequent years and boi was that a good decision. The end result now is that I'm now confident in both and I like the sweetspot where the hardware interfaces with the software.
After that I came here for university since it's the nearest and a lot of friends also did so, for the same reason probably. I wasn't sure of what course to chose. I wanted to give Computer Science another chance but in the end I think I wanted to make my life more difficult and I picked physics. I still find fascinating the order that physics gives to nature, the fact that things just happen to follow some rules, and even when they doesn't seem to, well, their statistic do.
Looking back it was another great decision. I learned and found even more interesting bits of nature that I was never expecting to.
Only in recent times I'm recognising that my student years are coming to an end and would like to start to be more free with my time and having more independence in my life.
In my free time I enjoy learning more random stuff without the pressure of being required to and the quietness and calmness that I often find it by hiking or being in nature in general.
I'm not a people person, I often had to say there's a limit to the number of people I can deal with at the same time and that limit is too many times two, me included.

Hi everyone! My name is Siria and I’m a medical physics student here in Trento. I’m actually not from around here since I was born and lived most of my life in a small village close to Bergamo called Ardesio. You can see in the picture how pretty it is! But apart from the beauty it can be quite boring and that’s the main reason why I decided to move far away. I’ve always enjoyed visiting new places and tried to spend most of my vacations travelling even though this isn’t always compatible with the choice of studies I made and the small amount of free time physics students actually have. I’ve recently come back from a semester in Oslo as an Erasmus student, it was one of the best experiences in my life since I was able to improve both my social skills, by making new wonderful friends, and my physics knowledge thanks to the encouragement of very dedicated professors. Apart from travelling, which is not really a spare time activity, I enjoy watching movies, playing volleyball and sometimes football. As to my study path I’ve always been interested in sciences but I was never sure of what I wanted to do exactly. I used to change my mind pretty often jumping from medicine to physics to engineering, in the end I’m very happy with the choice I made since the biomedical physics field allows me to combine and fulfill all my interests.

Hello.
I'm Alessandro and I was born in Trento 23 years ago.
At 14 I attended a technical Institute called ITT-Michelangelo Buonarroti. As in each technical institute the first two years are the same for everyone. During these years you decide your "specialization" for the next 3 years. My specialization was the electrotechnics specialization. Once I finished the school I had two options: I could go to work in an electrical company or I could continue my student career. I thought about my future for few days and the result was that I had to fulfill my scientific curiosity at an university and so I did.
Also this 5 years of university are almost finished and in this last period I realized that there are a lot of things unknown for me that I can probably study in a PhD. But there is also the opportunity to find a job. I don't really know what I will do in the next future. The only thing for which I am sure is that in both cases I would go out from Trento, and maybe also from Italy.
In my free time I like to listen to music, principally rap, play football and almost every weekend I hang out with my friends somewhere to drink something.

Hi there, I’m Elia.

I was born in Bassano del Grappa 24 years ago and I lived there until I decided to move here in Trento to study physics.

I was passioned about science since I was a little boy, when I wished to work in a laboratory or to become an astronaut. Here I am about 12 years later, totally unfit to be an astronaut (or even an astrophysicist), but at least I conserved my interest in nature and its laws. Despite I could define myself as an experimentalist, I choosed to study Physics at the last year of the high school mainly because I fell in love with Nether’s theorem.

I played basketball for many years in local teams, but now it’s been a lot since I last touched a Basket ball.

When I’m not studying, I like to hang out with friends and to chill listening to music and podcasts. In my spare time I also collaborate with ADMO as I had the luck of being called to donate the bone marrow a few years ago.

At the moment I live in Povo and I love it since there is nothing such as a peaceful morning walk with a mountain landscape to reach the University and start the day. There are just a few things that I miss about where I lived in Bassano, among which my cat (yes I love cats). For completeness I should also cite my two tortoises despite I’m not as attached to them as to my cat to be honest. This of course causes a bit of guilty feelings that I’ll face just dedicating to them the picture.

Hi everyone, I'm Silvia. I'm 24 Years old and I'm From Brescia.
Brescia is a quite big city in lombardia and is mostly known for having a big industrial area , specialized in metal industry. Anyway it also has a beautiful city centre, of which are worthy of mention a medieval castle, a Roman temple, the old and the new cathedrals merged together and many great squares.
About Myself, I did scientific high school, I'm an experimental physics student and I'm mainly interested in renewable energies and ways to pollute less and clean up polluted areas, probably because this is an important issue in Brescia.
Besides study, I did many different Sport activities, from classical dance to kung fu. In Trento I found a Capoeira group so I started doing Capoeira and then I changed to Samba , with the same group. We even did a carnival party before covid.
Overall I can say that I'm a people person but in these two years my social skills have worsened and I'm looking forward to recover them.

Hello everyone! I'm Matteo, Matteo F. to be precise as there is another boy sharing my name in this group.
I'm 24 years old and I'm originally from Cremona ì, in Lombardy, where I spent most of my life before moving out of town to attend the university here in Trento.

Ever since my childhood, I have been quite a curious boy, although not always towards science and the like. As a matter of fact, I attended a foreign laguages highschool, mainly stimulated by the possibility of studying Mandarin Chinese as a language of choice.
By the end of highschool, I was put off studying literature and humanities, probably just fed up after five years of highschool.
It was at that point that I started getting interested to more, say, logically structured subjects as math and physics,.
Eventually, I chose to take this path in university, following some friends' advice and enrolling here in Trento for the Bachelor's degree in Physics first, and the Master's degree in Theoretical and Computational Physics later on.

So, basically here I am now living in Povo and, as most of the others here, spending most of my time studying. I quite suffered a bit from the pressure and stress that this "carreer" choice carries along with it, especially in the last couple of years. Thereofore, I decided to take it easy for these last few months left before graduation.
I love food and trying out new things, so much of my time (and money) is spent that way with a couple of other foodlovers friends.
I am still very keen on keeping up my Chinese and I am currently taking advantage of the Tandem project offered by the university.

I also like, when time allows, to engage in manual and practical projects of various kinds.
I also have an old Dog named Pongo, known also as Brando and Salsiccia.

I have always loved Maths and Sciences but I had my first date with Physics only in high school, when my professor made me passionate about it. Since that moment, my goal has been to study physics and become a scientist.
I am from a small village near Mantua, a very lovely city with a lot of landmarks and a magnificent skyline.

During high school I took the chance to discover new interests, such as acting. I've participated for four years to a theatre class at school. I really enjoyed that time, meeting new people, having fun and putting myself in the game.
Till middle school I was shy and suspicious with people; that experience really helped me in imporving also my social skills.
I tried to continue this passion but it was hard to fit it in my time; i did something with a scientific dissemination company but the time i need to study is always more and it is difficult to do everything i want.

An other hobby I have is playing football. I started at 5 years old, and luckily I am able to keep doing that at the moment. My biggest fear at high school was not to continue playing football while i was at university but, here i am so good for me. I think it is really important for me also as way to relax after a day spent studying or attending lectures.

The best thing that has ever happened to me at university is meeting new people. I was very lucky to meet those kind of people that still today are part of my life. Indeed, I am living with three of my past colleagues of my Bachelor studies and we have such a special and beautiful bond. I also have other important relationships with people I met here in Trento and i am so grateful to have them in my life.

Then I chose to enroll in the physics course of the University of Trento without expectation and I figured out that I like it. By preferred field is the applied physics one. Thus, here I am. Outside studying, I love climbing and mountaineering in general, like backcountry skiing, ice climbing and multipitch climbing. I’m addicted to it. Trentino is one of the best places in the world to combine all these passions in such a small place, and that's why I chose to study here. Furthermore, since when I was 16, I have been working at Sette Selle, a small refuge in the mountains near Trento. You need just 40 minutes by car to reach the park. From there, there are beautiful tours in which you can come and visit us for a delicious lunch.

That’s me.

Hello everyone!
My name is Riccardo, I am 23 years old and I'm from a small village in the province of Mantua. Since I was a child, I knew that I loved science. I attended secondary school here, and then, at the end of the scientific high school, I decided to move to Trento, where I am currently studying. Five years ago I decided to study Physics. Well, I think this is the best choice I have ever made. I enjoy performing experiments, using different instruments, learning every time something new. At this moment, I am trying to improve my knowledge of Particle Physics since it has always been one of my biggest desires to work with particle detectors.

In my free time, I enjoy doing plenty of activities. I play hockey in-line and, at the moment, I am part of the "Castellana Lupi hockey club" team. The team has become like my second family. I love playing hockey because of the adrenaline, the speed, and the intensity characterising all the matches. With those skates, it is possible to reach such high velocities! But no worries! We are equipped with lots of protectors; look at the picture above!. In the pic, you can see my team, at that time we had just finished a friendly match.

Besides hockey, after all the study sessions during my days, I enjoy playing the piano. I am not a very good piano player, but I am trying to improve my capabilities by learning new pieces. I also enjoy listening to classical piano music. My favourite musician is, of course, Chopin. His pieces are so full of cascades of notes. My fav piece is the Nocturne No.1 in B flat minor (opera 9 No.1). I would advise you to listen to the Preludes written by Chopin (Op. 28). They are beautiful, trust me!

Hello everyone! My name is Marco and I was born more than 29 years ago in Aarau, a small town in the north of Switzerland. My family is nevertheless originally from southern Italy, so my parents decided to return to Italy when I was 6. I lived there until I was 14, when I came to Bolzano.
Since my childhood I was always fascinated by science, so it was not a surprise when I decided to attend the scientific high school. Then I chose the University of Trento, because of its proximity and its good reputation. At that time I was torn between two options: mathematics course or physics course. I enrolled initially in the first one, but after more than two years my interest in nature and its laws led me to switch to the second one. After the bachelor’s degree I decided to pursue my career with a master’s degree course in theoretical and computational physics, during which I enjoyed a lot deepening my scientific knowledge, especially about both low temperature physics and high energy cosmic phenomena.
Now my goal is to write my master’s thesis and carry out this long journey. And then...to start another one, maybe abroad. Besides this, I’m improving my German, having neglected it a little over the past few years.
Outside university, I like reading books regarding also non-scientific topics, watching movies and taking a walk in the vicinity of my house in Bolzano, where I currently live (but I love the landscape of Trento as well, so here is a picture of some time ago). And finally, I adore cats.

Hi, I'm Francesco Osti, and I'm 23. I live in Spormaggiore a village near Paganella mountain. Every day I take public transport to reach Povo where I attend a Master in Physics. I've always been fascinated in science and technology, indeed my aunt sometimes reminds me a day when I was two and I asked her to go to see the hydroelectric power plant. Then the years after I started reading books and I got even more into the subject, particularly in electronics. When it was time to choose which high school to attend, the choice was simple for me: I choose to attend a technical institute (ITT), so I went to ITT M . Buonarroti in Trento.
After two year we have to choose the specialization, I want to do electroics but in Trento that year there wasn't enough people to create a class, so I decided to move to another school and I went to IIT G. Marconi in Rovereto. In these three years I learned many things in electronics, but I also I have been passionate about motorsport. At the end of the high school I had to decide which university to attend. The most obvious choice would have been to continue with electronics, but I felt like that a too specific subject like electronics would have bored me soon or later, so I chose the most general subject: physics. Now, after almost 5 years, I feel like this was the right choice, but I never gived up with electronics. Indeed, since 3 years, I'm in a formula student team (E-Agle TRT), where with my little, I help build a race car.
In my free time I enjoy hiking and mountain bike riding, also since 4 years, I restarted playing guitar.

Hello everyone!
My name is Matteo C., I am 24 years old, and I live in Castel Ivano, a small village in Valsugana, in the province of Trento.
Since I was a child, I have been fascinated by science and technology. Consequently, when I was 14, I chose to attend the Liceo Scientifico - opzione Scienze Applicate in Borgo Valsugana, a few kilometers from my home. Here, I had the possibility to study in particular Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Sciences, and Computer Science. I also had the opportunity to approach Electronics and Robotics, participating in a project promoted by my school.
When I had to choose how to continue my studies at university, my favorite subjects were Physics and Computer Science. I was quite undecided between the two disciplines, but in the end I chose Physics, as it is more varied and general. Moreover, I saw it as a more difficult challenge. So, I attended the bachelor's degree course in Physics at the University of Trento, where I obtained my bachelor's degree in 2020. In the same year, I started attending the master's degree course also in Trento, with the aim of completing my education in Physics. In the last two years, I studied in particular the physics of low temperatures and the applications of Quantum Mechanics.
Regarding my future, I have rather confused ideas. Currently, I do not know if, after the master's degree, I will continue my studies with a PhD course, or if I will try a work experience. A possibility that attracts me is also teaching Physics and Mathematics at high school.
In my free time, I love watching movies and anime, listening to music, meeting friends, and playing board games.

Hi guys! I'm Giovanni and I was born in Bassano del Grappa in Veneto about 24 years ago. I lived in a little town, Pove del Grappa, where I spent all my childhood. I that period, I played a lot of sports from football and tennis to basketball (my favourite sport now). Probably, my preference in scientific subjects was born those years, watching a lot of documentaries about plants, animals and the space. Then I studied in a scientific high school in Bassano, thinking that was my way. But it was harder than I expected. Indeed, until the 4th year of high school my math and physics grades weren't good and sometimes I risked to be deferred in these subjects. Pheraps, this situation is due to my principal aim during those years which is being a doctor. Unfortunately, I wasn't very good at natural sciences and biology either. Despite these things, my determination has never miss me and during the last year I recoverd those lacks and I started to inform about some physics university with some schoolmates. We found Trento and, after graduating in high school, I moved in that city. I attended the bachelour degree here and I discussed my thesis during the first italian lockdown. After the lockdown, I went in Malta where I take an English course to prepare me to academic IELTS test. Returned in Italy, I passed the test with a B2 level. Now, I'm the second year of master degree in Physics. A fun fact is that now I'm the same apartment where I started my studies with my friend Edoardo. 6 years in the same place...incredible.
Something about me: I love going out with my friends, drinking something and if I meet new people, I am nothing but happy. I have been a Boy Scout since I was 8 years old and now I'm a Scoutmaster caring for and educating children ages 8-12 in the Scout life. Sometimes, I play basketball and football with friends and when I've the time I go to a run around Trento or in my town in Pove. Indeed, I love running with my dog, Laika, in the deserted streets of my little town. Furthermore, I also have a strong passion: growing and, of course, eating hot peppers as the picture that I sent shows. From 2019, I've never stop to make my own my chili in oil and chili jam. I might grab a jar and eat it together after our class, but be careful: they are very spicy. I think that I can write more and more beautiful and fun stuff but in an hour have a lesson to attend.
See you to next english class
