While literacy research covers a broad range of skills, practices, and pedagogical challenges, one thing upon which most scholars agree is that literacy is a SOCIAL act (Yancey, LaMott, Parrott, etc.). Edward and Paz argue "writing requires talking to friends, asking help from colleagues, finding answers and ideas in others' writings, and indulging in those practices. We embrace collaboration over isolation, and it is precisely this model of writing that we argue education should promote to writers and students everywhere."

Talk with your breakout room groupmates about ways you can create opportunities for collaboration after this quarter when you are writing for other purposes/courses. How can student writers create networks of support outside of the classroom that will provide opportunities to talk about their writing with other writers? What can you do to find the kind of collaborative support that Edward and Paz argue writing requires?

Write a collaborative post with your groupmates responding to these questions and include an image, gif, or other visual in your post.

Near the beginning of the quarter we created a Discord server for UWP 7. Discord is a great network for students outside of class because we can connect with out peers anytime necessary to ask questions, engage in the class, and come up with new ideas by collaboration. This is a tool that doesn't end with the quarter, but instead can exist outside of UWP7. It can also be used to ask for peers to review our work and receive meaningful feedback, since we've all gone through the Eli review training.

The Internet is a useful medium to create opportunities for collaboration after this quarter when writing for other purposes. For example: on social media, people can respond to polls, add comments, share information with one another; On discord, they can host group study sessions on for specific courses so that students can exchange ideas, input, and receive guidance on there; or, there could be a collaborative document where a group of writers can pin ideas from the internet to get inspired from. In order to find the kind of collaborative support that Edward and Paz discusses, writers should go out of their comfort zone and talk to people. They can create a post on social media that beckons writers to collaborate on a particular topic. (Zubaira Amin, Hannah Dapkewicz, Michelle Chen, Kevin Serrano)

(Hana, Clarina, Natalie, Sydney)
Discord is probably the easiest method of communicating because it's easy to make one big server with a lot of people and share links to google docs and make quick suggestions. We can also post links for zoom calls if we wanted to meet in smaller groups for more individualized feedback/discussion. Overall, using internet and social media can help a lot to get quick feedback and get your writing sent out to a big audience in order to get multiple perspectives. Even something like EliReview is a good example of an internet platform that can allow for quick and easy peer revisions.

A great way to connect and share your ideas is by creating a meaningful group and surrounding yourself with those you share similarities with. A way in which you can do this is by joining certain clubs and activities, where you have a common ground and sense of unity with many individuals. Discord groups and many other social media platforms are also a helpful and open space where you can bond between similarities and interests. You can make many useful contributions on the internet and find ways to reach out to people as well as discover potential friends and associates.
- Belinda, Nafil, Colleen, and Noor
