In this slideshow, I wrote creative pieces in the form of vignettes and poems which were modeled off the novel House on Mango Street. There are three vignettes (My Name, Identity Event, Coming of Age) and three poems (Bio Poem, Racism, 10 Years Old). In each piece, I focused on adding figurative language and using quality words to convey a certain mood.

I discuss how words/names can have hidden meanings and how simple names are viewed more positively.
Zélie's Vengeance

Using the story Children of Virtue and Vengeance, I created a short story. In this story, I start in the middle of one chapter and slowly expand on Zélie and Inan's relationship, and why Zélie and Amari have such conflicting opinions when it comes to the future of the maji. This connects to the original story not only because it uses original excerpts to make it feel like part of the actual book, but it also takes a pre-existing setting and uses the description to its advantage - the setting is a jungle, so I interpreted there being a cave somewhere, which would be the perfect setting for conflict. My favorite scene is Zélie's flashback, specifically when she says to Inan, "Don't apologise. Just act. We've got people to avenge."
