Designing the task was very fun for me as I was fleshing out the processes in the Webquest so that it is informative and instructional for language learners. I think this task will be very beneficial and makes utilizing English in a creative context an amusing and lively experience. The language learners will have plenty of chances to develop their reading (researching process), writing (script writing), speaking (filming process) and their listening (editing and creating subtitles for the end product). I believe this task can also help them to practice speaking slowly, but clearly in English and encourages them to use real-life expressions associated with mealtime.

We were very excited to design the WebQuest, knowing that it can help students develop critical thinking skills such as comparing, classifying, inducing, deducing, analyzing errors, constructing support, abstraction, and understanding different perspectives. Creating the video also allowed us to communicate ideas clearly, practice writing and speaking skills, and explore digital tools creatively. It also encouraged teamwork and critical thinking, making learning more meaningful.

2. Improve students' knowledge:

We believe that our webquest greatly helps to improve students' knowledge in specific skills of english especially in reading and writing. It encourages students to do independent reading and research about the dish they choose. They will look for information about traditional Malaysian food including the ingredients, cooking steps, fun fact or history of the dish by reading the websites, books, recipes, articles, blogs or any reading materials that provide them detailed information about the dish. By practicing reading during this task, it will help students to improve their reading fluency and comprehension.

In addition, the webquest is also helpful in improving students' vocabulary as the content can be understood and knowledgeable to the audience/viewer. For example, they will learn new word especially food-related words such as "dairy", "roast", "boil", or "fragrant". The specific topic chosen has the potential to engage a wide range of viewers regardless of their background, age or level of familiarity with the subject.

The creation of webquest also provides experiences and opportunities for students to think creatively by combining several elements such as text, pictures or illustrations according to their creativity. It is able to improve students' skills to think outside the box and make learning more enjoyable.

Additionally, students are required to produce a scrapbook based on the traditional dish they have selected. This task helps develop their writing skills in English, as they must write a clear and concise summary of the dish, including key details such as the ingredients, preparation steps, and cultural background. By summarizing and organizing information, students practice writing coherent sentences, paraphrasing ideas, and applying relevant vocabulary. This not only improves their writing fluency but also encourages them to express ideas in their own words, thereby building confidence in written communication.

Our group knew we wanted to focus on reading, and after some discussion, we decided to go with something with food labels (since the task had to be related to Food). Many students don’t usually read them, so we thought it would be interesting to turn that into a task that helps with reading skills.

Designing the process of the WebQuest was manageable, but the hardest part for us was working on the video. Since everyone has different schedules, it was difficult to find a time when we were all free to record together. In the end, we managed by dividing the slides and recording separately, then combining everything into one video.

We believe our WebQuest can help students improve their reading by getting them to read authentic English texts (like real food labels), and it also encourages them to learn new vocabulary and summarise information in their own words. The WebQuest also uses elements like video, posters, and Padlet, so it’s interactive and not just reading from a textbook.

Overall, we learned a lot about designing a task despite the limited time and schedule conflicts within the group. We think students would enjoy doing this WebQuest and it can help them become more confident in reading real-life English.

In our magazine project titled ‘Taste of The World’ can significantly improve students’ English language skills through : 

1. Reading skills 

• Students can improve their reading skills by searching materials such as articles, recipes, blogs and online interviews. These sources help them practice skimming for main ideas and scanning for specific information.

2. Writing skills

• These skills strengthened as we created content for the magazine, including descriptive articles, step-by-step instructions, and cultural explanations. This helped us focus on grammar, vocabulary usage, sentence structure, and coherence.

My group and i have designed a Food Vlogging theme of webquest.

Designing the Food Vlogging webquest was a fun experience. It helped us learn how to plan engaging lessons that connect English learning with real-life tasks. Creating the video was enjoyable, though a bit challenging, as we had to be creative and clear in presenting our ideas.

I believe this webquest can improve students’ English skills, especially in speaking, writing, and vocabulary. By planning and recording their own food vlogs, students practice using descriptive language, organizing ideas, and communicating confidently. It also encourages creativity and helps them apply English in a practical, modern context.

Overall, it was a rewarding experience that showed how digital tasks like vlogging can make learning more interactive and effective.

2. Learn about the how to be great in writing structure by using the food - related vocabulary and organize the information to one perfect article format. This can be help by giving a review and feedback from others so it's help us to improve the writing.

3. Searching and reading the information from the article make us become engaged and independent to finish our work and learning more new things that can benefit us in future at anywhere we been.

Making the video was also a good experience. I had to speak clearly and explain the WebQuest step by step. This helped me improve my speaking skills. It also made me feel more confident about sharing my ideas with others.

I felt happy and proud when I finished everything. I was excited to see how this WebQuest could help students learn. I also learned how to be more creative and how to use simple tools like Canva.

The food review series is named Makan Apa Harini, Gais? to cater to Malaysian audience on TikTok, where learners introduce Southeast Asian traditional dishes in English to fellow locals through TikTok videos to improve their English, and of course, to expand visibility among non-Malay speakers in Malaysia as well.

Afterwards, they will be researching about the dishes and its cultural backgrounds from the Internet, the location in which one could get it, along with its price. Then, they are instructed to write a caption of their video based off the information they have read online, record the TikTok videos where they will be introducing the food, describing it, presenting its cultural significances among the local society, offer one unique thing they find about the food, and provide an honest rating of it. In the end, they will edit the videos using TikTok features (in this process, they will also have to decide on an aesthetic that they are going for, etc.), post them, and share with their classmates.

Designing the task was fun for me. However, I found it hard to be a content creator because they had to plan and organize their speech and content before jumping straight to recording, similar to the WebQuest task that we designed. It was also challenging as my fellow group mates were clueless of what a WebQuest is, so I had to make a phone call with them and explain what it is about thoroughly. I hope that wasn't a situation where the blind is leading the blind. But, the process went smoothly after so it's all good.

Personally, I find our WebQuest helpful for students who are eager to learn English in a chill way. Nowadays, the Gen Z's have a hard time learning something that requires them to pay attention for a long time, like in classroom setting. And we all know that watching TikTok has become our daily routine by now, for most of us. Thus, such task like creating TikTok videos in English is a fun way to implicitly educate other people in English language, while improving our own proficiency as well in reading (by researching about the food and culture), writing (by writing the caption of the videos), speaking (by talking in front of the camera), and listening (through peer sharing).

What’s also beneficial is that the material focuses on a specific topic — in our case, food-related content. When the topic is clear and targeted, students can concentrate on learning vocabulary and expressions within that specific area. This helps them build deeper and more meaningful knowledge. If the material were too general, students might feel overwhelmed and only absorb surface-level information, making it harder to develop strong language skills in any one topic.

Lastly, by expressing what they’ve learned through speaking or writing tasks, students actively process the material, which reinforces their understanding. Overall, I believe the webquest is an efficient and engaging way to support language learning.

Additionally, the use of digital tools such as YouTube, Canva, and websites helps us become more comfortable with technology, which is essential in today's learning environment. Overall, this webquest helps us develop useful communication skills and makes learning English enjoyable.

WebQuest offer students authentic audio resources such as interviews, podcasts and videos that immerse them in real-world language use and expose them to various accents in their target language. This exposure enhances their listening comprehension and their ability to infer meaning from context. According to Coffman (2009), WebQuests is an inquiry-oriented activity is wrapped around big idea questions as well as learning standards and objectives and it should provide authentic tasks to engage students in exploring and creating their own understanding about a topic.

2. Webquest can improve students' speaking skills.

Through collaborative tasks, WebQuest encourage students to engage in discussions, debates and presentations, thereby practicing their speaking skills in a supportive environment. The use of authentic materials and real-world scenarios motivates students to communicate effectively. Research indicates that students involved in WebQuest activities showed notable advancements in pronunciation, fluency, and vocabulary usage.

3. Webquest encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Webquest helps student to think deeply and solve problems by asking them to explore, analyze and combine information. instead of jus memorizing facts, students also work on real-life task - make them ask any questions or find the answers on their own. Through this method, students are guided to consider their knowledge, critically assess the information and exchange their ideas with others. Consequently, students can boost their language skills and become more confident in using English in real-life situation.

Designing this webquest for a food blog recipe was actually a really fun and eye-opening experience for me. At first, I thought it would just be a straightforward writing task, but breaking it down into clear steps-reading, writing, and speaking-made me realize how much language practice students can actually get from one simple project.

I liked how the webquest structure kept everything organized, starting with an introduction to get everyone interested, then a clear task, and a step-by-step process so nobody felt lost. It was also great to see how students could get creative, whether they used a recipe from the internet or invented something totally new. The part where they had to write a short story about how they found the recipe made the activity feel more personal and fun, not just like another boring assignment.

Having students present their blog posts was a highlight because it gave them a chance to practice speaking in a relaxed, real-world way. I noticed that even students who are usually a bit shy got excited to share their food stories and tips.

Overall, I think webquests like this are a great way to combine different language skills in one activity. It encourages creativity, teamwork, and practical use of language-plus, who doesn’t love talking about food? I’d definitely use this approach again for other topics, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a more engaging way to teach reading, writing, and speaking in the classroom.

Additionally, they were tasked with researching foods from different countries. This activity encouraged them to read more, which can expand their vocabulary. Overall, creating the video for the webquest was a great experience because we had to explain each step clearly. We are happy to have completed this task and hope our webquest will effectively help students improve their speaking skills.

This is the first time I have learned about WebQuest and I find it to be a really interesting platform for learning. What makes WebQuest interesting to me is it's variety learning methods which makes it beneficial to different kinds of learners. What I mean by different kinds is that each students have diverse learning preferences and needs. For example, some students are hands-on learners who tend to understand better when they engage or experience something themselves. Next, auditory learners who tend to absorb information effectively by listening and hearing explanations. There are also visual learners who learn more clearly through images, videos, and written texts. There are also  students who have combination of these learning styles or have other unique styles.

Since WebQuest combine reading, writing, speaking, and other learning methods. I believe it will help students with different strengths and abilities can all participate and benefit from the task. Not only that, WebQuest also makes the learning process more enjoyable as it embrace the diversity of students needs and can encourage active participation.

💻 Webquest & Video Project: My Thoughts

• 🎯 Planning was a bit tough at first, especially when deciding on the topic and tasks — but teamwork helped us get through it.

• 🎥 Creating the video was fun and gave us a chance to be creative while sharing useful content.

• 🧠 The process taught me new skills, especially in using digital tools and thinking from a teacher's point of view.

• 📚 From the articles, we learned that webquests promote critical thinking and independent learning — and I could really see that happening during our project.

• 💡 To make it better, we could include quizzes, discussion areas, or feedback options for more interaction.

The webquest we designed is “Food Recipe Blog”. 

Designing this webquest and the video was a very interesting task. We were given the opportunity to experience the perspective of an educator.

This project helped me improve my writing by focusing on clarity and purpose. I also saw how it can help students practice reading and writing English through research and rewriting information in their own words. Like Warschauer mentioned in one of our readings, tech-based tasks like this can help students become more independent learners.

Making the video was challenging but fun. It taught us how to present ideas clearly and work well as a group. Overall, this WebQuest encourages creativity, collaboration, and real-world language use.

1. WebQuests task requires students to constantly engaging with information, analysing it and present their findings in class. This entire process promotes deeper learning by making students actively engage, collaborate and apply critical thinking in authentic tasks.

Working as a group allowed us to share ideas, divide tasks, and give feedback to each other, which improved the overall quality of the WebQuest. This task can enhances speaking skills, as students are required to express themselves clearly in English while recording a short video. This gives them practice in pronunciation, fluency, and organizing their thoughts orally.

In addition, students improve their listening skills by watching and responding to their classmates’ videos on Flipgrid. This encourages them to listen for specific information and understand different accents or speaking styles, which is essential for real-world communication.

However, for a webquest to really work, teachers should guide students properly. If the reading materials are too hard, students may get confused. Writing tasks should have clear instructions and feedback so students can improve. Listening activities should include questions or discussions to make sure students understand. Speaking tasks should encourage real conversation, not just memorized answers.
