Overview section
My topic is the most important places to visit in New Zealand. My criteria to pick the items includes how many activities you can do there, the rating it received, and how far away it is from the nearest airport. Some basic information to know about New Zealand; New Zealand is located below Australia and has two islands the North and South. The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand.

Rotorua is a geothermal active zone, where you can see geysers. This is a place of relaxation, where you can have a spa day from the springs. Not only is Rotorua a nice place to relax but it is also very historical. Rotorua has a Maori culture center where you can see Maori culture in action. Maori dances to seeing how a Maori would cook meals using the geothermal zones. It's definitely a place where you can learn the history of the Maori.

Wellington is the capital and second most populous area of New Zealand. It is located at the southern end of the North Island. It is also the film capital of New Zealand. Movies such as Avatar, The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, The Avengers and The Hobbit have been worked on in Wellington. For Hobbit, Lord of the rings fans visiting Wellington should be included in your trip. Embassy Theatre was built in 1926 and hosted the premiere of the Hobbit, the name plates are still there with the actors and character's names. Mount Victoria isn't just a great place to see Wellington but it is also where the Hobbiton Woods were filmed. Wellington isn't just for movie lovers, you can see wildlife close to the city. A fur seal colony lives nearby and you can visit Zealandia, a sanctuary for wildlife such as Kiwi's and tuatara.

These glaciers have something weird about them, they are below the ice line and are really close to the ocean. But they still exist on the west coast of the South Island. Which in turn makes the glaciers easy to access. The fox glacier is over 13 kilometers long and is 2,600 meters in height. While Franz Josef is 12 kilometers. Fox and Franz Josef glaciers flow ten times faster than most valley glaciers. You can take journey's onto the ice, or take a helicopter or ski plane to where the glaciers begin. (Franz Josef glacier)

Mount Cook is the tallest mountain in New Zealand, over 3,000 meters high. ( 9842 feet) Mt. Cook is a beautiful place to visit, there are alpine forests, glaciers such as Tasman glacier, and you can get a good view for stargazing. If you want an aerial view then take a helicopter tour. The alpine wilderness has creatures you won't find anywhere else like the Kea(mountain parrot) and the Mt.Cook lily( the largest buttercup in the world.) If you enjoy skiing then you can ski down a glacier or try help-skiing. Not only is Mt.cook amazing but it also is tied into Maori culture. Mt.Cook is called Aoraki in Maori, and they believed that" Aoraki and his three brothers were sons of Rakinui, the Sky Father. While on a sea voyage, their canoe overturned on a reef. When the brothers climbed on top of their canoe, the freezing south wind turned them to stone. The canoe became the South Island; Aoraki and his brothers became the peaks of the southern alps." insert from www.newzealand.com.
