All of the books that I've read based on British Literature were all written by famous writers of the English Renaissance. As a reader, I've noticed a similar theme that is present in all of the books that I've read in class. The English Renaissance may not necessarily be prominent now, but I can see how it has helped evolve English literature in general. In terms of inventions, I can definitely see the impact of the printing press and how it has helped educate the common man and woman in masses.

The Renaissance offers many pieces of literature such as all of Shakespeare's work. There were many themes mentioned in his works that involve humanistic topics and taboo subjects; which was also all included in the Renaissance. This new way of thinking about life influenced art and literature with the help of the Renaissance Men, because they were a key inspiration to other playwrights as well. To this day, there are still aspects of humanism because these ideas are eternal.

The renaissance has been explored by several literary works in each English class that I have had, every year since 7th grade. I think the reason FCPS has for consistently teaching about the Renaissance is to teach our generation the benefits and effects of revolutionizing our culture and ideology. Ideas that originated in the Renaissance era are still prominent today such as humanism, naturalism and other concepts which have molded our society into a more freely progressive and tolerant culture. For example, our constitution holds several Renaissance era concepts which currently dictate our government and our lives as well, while literary themes and structures established by Renaissance poets are still used as a basis for modern literature.

Economical developments - Joint stock companies, which gave incentive for people to sponsor trans-oceanic expeditions. Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, which explicitly showed the the economic persecution (through usurers) of Jews, has themes that resonate in today's society in which instead of race or ethnicity, credit scores determine if the banks will loan money to people. Humanistic sculptures, which depicted anatomically accurate sculptures, resonate today.

What developments during the English Renaissance influenced the formation of Joint Stock Companies?

Polyphony, which was introduced in the renaissance, soon gave way heterophony (multiple variations on the same melodic line). Bach took the ideas of polyphony and more or less pioneered "the chorale", which is still used in churches today, and wind bands use them as warm-ups/exercises in balance, tone, and phrasing. Polyphony directly survived into pop music, among others, with the modern conception of harmonizing with melodies, not chord/voice leadings. Percy aldridge Grainger is a good composer to look up for an example of this.

I read a book called "The Rose that Grew From Concrete" by Tupac Shakur that was heavily influenced by the great William Shakespeare. It was a book of poems and in it he discussed love and the idea of being in love is one that was idolized in the Renaissance Period. The pure complexity of the human emotion and the varying degrees that one can reach is so fascinating and the fact that the world is viewing it at a respected level would not be possible without the emphasis on the human emotions during the time of the Renaissance. I am humbled to see the modern artists and musicians still hold the idea of human emotions and romance to heart. These days people are so focused on satisfying their financial motives that we neglect ourselves at an emotional level. Life is so short and we need to understand ourselves emotionally in order to provide a solid base to develop financial gains. The financial gains we make mean nothing if we don't have people to share it with and loved ones who can also benefit from the wealth we acquire.

I have read several Shakespeare plays and soliloquies such as Romeo and Juliet, meaning my knowledge of this period is somewhat limited. However, focus of the self is a big theme in his work, as is self-sacrifice. Portraiture is very common today, and stemmed from traditional renaissance painting styles.
English Renaissance writers strived to rethink basic literary conventions to make their work artistic and appealing to their audience. The invent of the printing press and now wider literacy rates meant not only the rich could consume literature.
