Reflection on Life and Career Skills

I really didn't get why it was mandatory for us to attend the "life and career skills" week at first, but it only took me a couple lessons to finally understand. Life and career skills are the most important skills you'll be taking with you from university to the outside world, and it's mostly critical skills that include either money, statistics, or even how to create a business plan from scratch. What makes Life and Career Skills week fun sometimes is because of the activities we used to participate in, such as monopoly lessons, grouping up with your friends and creating projects, etc. You can even win a prize sometimes if you and your group turn out to be the best group in class. These are the things i liked about my experience during "Life and Career Skills" week.

The journey is interesting and demanding, ranging from seeing historic locations to participating in community services. Foreign views are encouraged by communicating with different classmates, and individual development is enhanced by extracurricular activities

As a Jordanian, I was born and brought up in Saudi Arabia, so for most of my years I have gotten mixed up into the Saudi culture and practices more than the ones in Jordan. Staying in Saudi Arabia for 12 years has helped me build intimate relationships with many people and get to meet diverse cultures other than my ethical cultures. When I had to move to Jordan in 2018, it was a complete shock to me even though it was my own country. It was like being home but it didn't feel like home, but that didn't stop me from learning and understanding more about my ethnicity and culture. Despite leaving my friends and life behind in Saudi Arabia, I still managed to build a stronger one with my current friends and links in Jordan to this day.

A love for sports

Growing up in a community full of people who support and watch sports, it can spread to a person and grow on him throughout the years. In the middle east generally, football is the most loved and watched sport, which makes it the only sport that people care about or try to play. I have been playing football in my school's main teams and i've won alot of trophies and medals throughout my school life. however, in highschool, i was willing to try other sports that i had an interest in, such as track and field, volleyball, and even basketball. With my curiosity and fast learning skills, i've managed to become very talented and passionate with all sports i've played in highschool, which lead to me achieving an "athlete of the year" award for my trophies in more than one sport in a single school year.

You would say that all boys grow up having interest in cars, you're not wrong. I have been interested in automotives since i was a child, where i used to go with my dad to car shows and races, i have found it very interesting and i kept falling in love with the idea even more. This interest helped me gain alot of knowledge in cars, how they functions, their brands, and their differences, and throughout my journey of being interested in cars, i have met alot of incredible people who have the same interest as me, which is great knowing that other people care about things you do as well.

My love for something can sometimes go to greater extents. As much as i love watching and learning about cars, i also love to photograph them. Usally, me and friends go out after school to look and hunt for rare cars to take pictures of, and we would spend hours taking every angle we could of the car, and sometimes we would meet and talk to the owners of the vehicles telling us their story about they used to be like us. As this hobby became more important to me i decided to create a social media account to show other people my work and how dedicated i was, which gained me agreater amount of followers as well.

Adding the gym to my lifestyle

Strengthening myself physically and mentally has always been in my interests. Participating in sports since I was young has given me a sense of joy more than a sense of discipline and hard work, as people normally get bored or exhausted from doing the same thing on and on again, I found it as something that helps me disconnect from everything else and just enjoying myself whilst using my physical strength. I started going to the gym during my late teens, as they always tell everyone to not use the gym before you're almost fully grown and it could affect your growth gradually, however, I learned that this is completely false and I should've known better before and added going to the gym at an early age of my life. with the help of using gym facilities, I have increased an extreme amount of strength and mobility, also gaining a very good physique that I have dreamed of ever since I was a child, not only did it help me physically but also mentally. Whenever I go to the gym, I create new friends and experience new environments, making my experience broad and interesting, and with the help of others I could use what I learned from them and implement it in myself to push my limits and exceed my expectations, creating a version of myself that would the old me proud of the new me.

Participating in an internship

During my 10th year of school, i was given a summer assignment of choosing a company to take an internship at, which sounded pretty fun for me and i went ahead and chose a company. My choice was the company "Memac Oglivy" which is a marketing agency that helps businesses market their servies to their audience. the reason why i chose this company wasn't out of interest but more into curiousity as i wanted to learn and understand the art of persuading and marketing in the advanced world we live in now. One of the most interesting things i experienced in my internship is meeting famous people that work with the agency as they help in marketing a brand making it more eye catching and persuading for the audience to ues this product other than competing products. Furthermore, I made sure to explore as many fields and positions as i can, such as Human Resources, Finance, Marketing team, and many more positions, which helped me gain an understanding on how a business works throughout a day to day basis. Taking part in an internship is a great chance for me to aid my CV for future opportunities making me ready and educated for anything, and i hope i attend more activities such as this.

Reflection on orientation week

During my first week at brighton, i was super nervous about being alone in another country far away from my parents, as well as having to meet new people, which is why the university conducted an orientation week in the beginning for "freshers" to be welcomed and know everything they need to know about the city and the university. I have met great people in the beginning which i consider now as one of my closest friends, they have helped me feel welcomed and safe in a country i was scared thinking about staying there for a long time away from my friends and family. The university also introduced us to the staff and teachers which made me get a sense of relieve knowing how great they are, for example, the university took us on a tour around brighton to see incredible landmarks, which helped me gain an insight on where i should go if i want to take a break and enjoy the city i live in and embrace it. Also, we had a tour around the university to have a better understanding on were to go during classes or if we needed a snack, which helped us alot when we had to start official classes so we don't feel a sense of confusion going around the university.
