I think it should. People wrote these stories down for a reason in the past. They believed them to be important in some way. If not for moral lessons, ancient literature can teach us history too. It's a window into how people used to live.

I think ancient literature should be a mandatory part of high school education, because it does have useful lessons to teach, and it can show us more about the world. However, I think classes focused on it should also talk about situations where ancient literature is helpful versus situations where contemporary works are more useful. -RH
