Hope Cooper

Mrs. Cronrath

Period 1

January 20, 2017

Main Point 2

The authors uses imagery and diction to communicate scope and effect the reader. In the story "Story of an Eyewitness" the author uses a broad scope and in the story "Letter from New Orleans: Leaving Desire" the author uses a narrow scope. Both stories effect the reader because they were a moment in history. In the short story "Story of an Eyewitness" by Jack London the author uses imagery and diction to effect how the story makes you feel. In this story the author uses the broad scope to effect the reader. The writer talks about the whole city being in panic, having to leave all of a sudden, and having to leave their stuff to burn or buried in the ground to keep from burning. This shows the feeling of loss and depression because of knowing how much they've lost. In the short story "Story of an Eyewitness" the author uses imagery and diction when it states "The street was a wall of flame." This makes the reader feel bad for all the people involved because they lost so much and nothing could fix it. This Tory also makes you feel sorrowful for all the people when the passage states "'Yesterday morning,'he said,' I was worth six hundred thousand dollars. This morning this house is all I have left. It will go in fifteen minutes."' This imagery shows the desperation these people went through when it wasn't their fault.

In the story "Letter from New Orleans: Leaving Desire" the author, Jon Lee Anderson, uses the effect of the imagery and diction to make you feel mournful for the people because of them having to make sacrifices and having to leave the stuff they love. People lost families, pets, homes, and possessions to survive. During the story "Letter from New Orleans: Leaving Desire," Jon Lee Anderson explains the effect of the storm on the houses and how it effected the people. Like when the man had to leave his dog to find his family,"He leaned down to his dog, took both its ears in his hands and caressed them, and then told the dog to go inside. Petrie climbed into the canoe and began paddling over to us." The story also shows how the people were relocated from their family and may never see them again,"but once they leave they are never going to see their homes again." This makes the reader feel really bad for what the people went through. They both may not have the same scope but they effect in the end. The both have lives, buildings, and families at risk and maybe even gone. We should learn to charisma our lives and families because it could all be over in a second.

Both of these story's effect the reader because they both where a tragic moment in the story. Both story's make you feel bad for the people that experienced all of that. I'm this story the effect of imagery and diction uses s broad scope to effect the reader. The author talks about how the whole city was in a panic. They had to leave all the sudden because they would have died quite. They also had to leave their staff the burn or barrier there stuff their belongings would burn. This makes anyone feel bad for them because of how much they lost. In the story of the eyewitness the author uses imagery and diction when the story stats the street was a wall of flame this makes the reader feel for the people because they lost so much and they won't much anymore could do.

In the short story "Story Of An Eyewitness" by Jack London the author uses a broad scope to effect the reader. In the short story "Letter From New Orleans:Leaving Disaster" by Jon Lee Anderson the author uses a narrow scope the effect the reader. Both of these story's affect the reader because both of these story's where tragic moments in history. Both story's makes the reader feel bad for bad for the people the experienced and all they lost. In the short story "Story Of An Eyewitness" by Jack London the author uses imagery and diction that effects how the story makes you feel. In the story the author uses a broad scope to effect the reader. The author talk about how the whole city was in a panic. They had to leave all in a sudden because they would died relatively quick. They also had to leave their belongings to burn or to be buried so they didn't burn from the fire. This would make anyone feel bad for them because of how much they lost. The author uses imagery and diction when the story states "The street was a wall of flame" this makes the reader fell bad for the people because they lost so much and they wasn't much anyone could do. The story makes you feel sad for the people. In the story it states "Yesterday morning "he said. I was worth six hundred thousand dollars. This morning this house is all I have left. It will go in fifteen minutes." This piece of imagery shows you the desperation these people went through and it wasn't anyone's fault. Similar to the story "Story Of An Eyewitness" by Jack London and "Letter From New Orleans: Leaving disaster by Jon Lee Anderson both authors uses scope and imagery to effect the reader. Unlike the story "Story Of An Eyewitness" when the author uses a broad scope, the author in the story " Letter From New Orleans: Leaving Disaster the author uses a narrow scope. In the story "Letter From New Orleans: Leaving Disaster" the author uses the effect of imagery and diction to make you feel bad for the people because they had to make sacrifices, and had to leave the stuff they loved. People lost families, pets, homes, and possessions to survive. They even had to leave their homes, because of toxins in the flood waters that would eventually make them sick and die. Similar to "Story Of An Eyewitness" when they had to leave their city because the fire would have killed them instantly.

In "Letter From New Orleans: Leaving Disaster" the man in the story explained the effects the storm on the houses, and how the storm effected the people, even himself. He explains how he had to leave his dog in order to survive, and find him family. The story states "...the Ninth Ward was a swamp, and, even after it became home to a black and immigrant white community, and was drained (in that order), it was periodically devastated by flooding. During Hurricane Betsy, in 1965, it was hit hard than most of the city, and was underwater for days". The story also states how the people were relocated away from their families and may never see them again "But once they leave they are never going to see their homes again". This makes the reader feel bad for the people went through, and how much you should cherish. Both story's may not have the same scope but they both are terrible tragic disasters they have the same effect in the end. Both occurrences in history lost lives, buildings, and families. We should learn from these story's. We should learn from this that you should cherish your life, families, and friends, because it could all be over in a second.
