She was born in Berlin, Germany around the turn of the 20th century, left for Spain with her husband in the 1930s to seek jobs and escape Hitler, got caught in the Spanish Civil War, and eventually made it to the USA, where she was reunited with her husband in Detroit, and they eventually settled in Northern Virginia, where they both lived long, active lives. Her life journey spans centuries, countries, and continents, and is tied up in world history.
